A friend of mine gave me a book on the Porsche 924 a few years ago. The book is Porsche 924 Gold Portfolio 1975-1986 (R. M. Clarke, 1989). The book is a compilation of magazine articles on the 924, and has all of the performance figures that you are looking for.
If you can not find a copy of the book, and need some specific information, let me know and I will look if up for you.

Hello there !
I answered that people sometimes have something to say about this car...
"That's not a real PORSCHE", "Do you know you've got an AUDI engine ?"...
Damn, what the #### can I hate that !
But happily, most of my friends told me, when they saw my car : "Wooow, you're rich ! How can you afford such a car ?!"
I must confess... This is really agreable.
If they only knew...
I payed this car 2 124 USD...
This is the price of a RENAULT Clio (I don't think you know... But if you don't, you're right ! ) !
And, in every way, I don't care !
I do love my car, and this is the most important !

I'd imagine that the original factory figures will be somewhat incorrect now, there's been so many advances in fuels, lubricants, tyres etc over the last 20 odd years...
On the attitude front, I get a mixed bag... some people assume the car cost a lot of money, most people seem to like the car and it gets a lot of admiring looks when we're out in her... there's always some gimp who goes into auto-jealousy though. On the most though people seem a more courteous when I'm in the 924, mainly because i guess they've already slowed up for a look... only people who act like tits around her are the local charvers/boy racers who think "sports car=wants to race". _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

CMXXXI, Those numbers (the 77 1/2 and later) look correct when compared to my 79 U.S. spec 924. _________________ 79 924 Sebring |

Neil,
I'd like to offer the following commentary on your poll question....
A friend of mine refers to his 911 as a "business tool." He says that when he shows up at a resaraunt parking lot for a power luncheon, no one cares how old his Porsche is or what model it is -only that he's got one. He also says that the one who arrives at such a meeting in a Porsche is usually the one who calls the shots and sets the agenda. He says his car makes a statement, that it screams success, and sends a message that he can take a particular deal or leave it, that he'll be okay either way.
When my wife got hired by her current employer, the manager that interviewed her suggested that they do one of those "let's go out for lunch -you pick the place, and we'll talk" kind of things. The manager asked if my wife would mind driving. Since she drives a Porsche 924S, she said that she wouldn't mind at all.
"Is that a Porsche? Is that your car? You drive a Porsche"?
"Well, uh, yeah."
After lunch, the manager went around introducing my wife as "Danielle the Porsche Girl". By the end of the first day, she was simply "Porsche Girl", and the nickname stuck. Since then, she's received a promotion, skipping two or three rungs on the corporate ladder to get it. When the girls from her office go out to lunch or across town for a meeting, they always want to carpool and have Danielle drive our 924S. She might drive the oldest car, but until recently, when the president of her division took delivery on a Carrera 4, "her" 924S was the only Porsche in the company lot. The fact that she drives a Porsche really does seem to matter to some people, and my wife really believes that the car impresses people. She says she feels successful when she drives it, and becase she feels that way, she acts that way, and thus people percieve her that way. She's fifteen years younger than I am, and just starting the climb up the corporate ladder, so the impression that she makes on others is very important to her.
My wife loves "her" 924S and doesn't want to commute in anything else.
In her case, our "little four-cylinder commuter car" is definitely a status symbol that people notice and respond to favorably. It's funny that my wife's co-workers who all drive expensive late-model European cars would go so ga-ga over a "lowly" and ancient 924S, but it seems that they do.

Good post JP Shelton! You should frame it. I told a few friends how much I bought my 924 for, and they said "Wow, what's wrong with it?" & "$7,500 bucks, what no engine?"
We have BMW's Benz's Audi's and just higher end cars in out lot.
There is one Carrera that shows up from time to time, {client owns it}. We walked to the elevator one day {I waited}, and he said it may as well cost a million dollars, because that's how much business it brings in each year.

Neil,
My wife feels the same way that your client with the Carrera does. It doesn't matter to her how much it costs to keep our 924S in well-sorted condition, because she sees the car as a business tool as much as a toy that is fun to play with.
Although she believes in her abilites, she also believes that the fact that she drives our Porsche to work, to off-site meetings, and so forth opens doors that allow her to demonstrate her abilites -doors that might not have opened, otherwise. Because of that, she doesn't care how much money we spend on the Porsche. She expects a return on the investment, albeit not one realized through an appreciation in value of the car itself. The return on the investment comes through those doors that open, that provide her the opportunity to climb the corporate ladder.
My wife isn't happy about "the way the game is played", but she's smart enough to know that she isn't going to be able to change the rules, and she knows that she isn't going to win it if she refuses to play.
It's a winning situation for me, too. Instead of being married to a woman who nags me about selling my "silly little sportscar" to buy a minivan, I not only get to keep the 924S, but I get to keep it the way I want it kept, because she enjoys the car, too, and not just as a "status symbol".
The price I pay is having to drive around in my '98 Jeep TJ five days a week while my wife uses the Porsche for her commute.
Hey, am I the luckiest guy in the world, or what?
I am married to "Porsche Girl", after all!

Hey Neil,
If it's any consolation, it's not all "peaches and sunshine" being married to Porsche Girl, either.
Take, for example, the day the Performance Products catalogue came in the mail. I didn't get to see it until after I passed the credit card over and she placed her order.
I get to pay the bill, though. And it is then that I am reminded that the 924S is MY car and that her name isn't on the title.
Some women spend money on shoes at department stores. Mine spends money on the typical "girl stuff" plus Porsche parts.
To make matters worse -or better, depending on one's view of such things- she wants to buy another 924S for autocrossing. She wants an '88, because of the added power over our '87. That's her idea, not mine. I'll probably have two of these things to keep running before the year is out, if we can find a clean one in good shape.
You might be better off than me, Neil. The grass isn't always greener if your wife is a Porschephile, too. I've got stuff I want to do to the Jeep, too, and fly rods to buy, and shotguns, and.....
