Morning all!
Would anyone know if the brake light switches are prone to failing? I have no brake lights anymore and the bulbs/fuses are fine. I just hope it's not another burned wire somewhere. _________________ 1982 Porsche nine two four with Carrera GT conversion - people think i'm slow cos it's an X plate!!

Hey mate... Dunno about the 924, but had the switch on my old Cavalier fail, probably easy enough to check by just bridging the switch with a short piece of wire... I just tried to check on eurocarparts for a price on them but I can't get in, know the one for the Cavalier was only a couple of quid though. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

lmfao! Points there for creativity then £15 seems steep, surely it's just a little micro switch, unless Porsche have come up with some mad setup. Still can't get into eurocarparts.com but i'd have thought they'd have a cheaper switch than £15... Unfortunately I'm not at home to take a look at the switch on mine and see how it's setup.
Not sure if there's still a 924 in the breakers near me, but if it's still there i'll grab the switch as a spare if they're that price.. I know all the relays etc were already gone when i spotted it, must be a few owners not keen to save some pennies. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a

If your Euro 82 chassis use the same setup as a US spec 82 then then brake light switch is a standard VW/Audi part mounted on the bracket in front of the brake pedal arm. Should be generic, cheap, and plentiful.
There also was an earlier setup using dual pressure actuated switches on the bottom of the master cylinder. _________________ John

most of the 924s I have seen have had the dual pressure switchs in the mc, to test unplug the plug on the mc and then bridge the to opposing wires together if the lights are on there is your problem, both mine went after 26 years and I replaced 1 I have the other 1 sitting in the car havent done it though, _________________ 3 928s, |

In 81 the brake switch was moved from the master cylinder (under the hood) to the brake pedal (inside the car). At that time, the circuitry was changed from two switches to a single.
The switch itself on the 81 and later 024 is a standard VW/Audi part, which can be taken from a similar vintage VW, Audi, or even a 944. |

Check the little wire connected to your parking brake handle, near the base of the handle on the underside if I remember. If this wire comes loose, your brake lights won't work. Happened to me and it took a while to track down the problem... _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Thanks guys, i will be checking out these ideas on Saturday. I think the handbrake wire could be the prob though as i've recently pulled it off due to the parking light flashing intermittantly because of a ruffled carpet! _________________ 1982 Porsche nine two four with Carrera GT conversion - people think i'm slow cos it's an X plate!!
