Its me again

Trying to purchase some of the rubber and plastic pieces I know are probably worn to hell and back inside of the shifting mechanism before I tear everything apart. I have the 5 speed audi transmission which is super sloppy currently. I have been staring at parts diagrams trying to figure out what's what in there between rubber, plastic, and metal and didn't get too far. So I decided to call my local dealership, who also cannot tell me based on his staring of parts diagrams and descriptions. Woooooooo love when I call the parts department and they don't even know how to help.

Things I've already acquired:
-Only944 shifter arm and shifter linkage arm

Things I think I need to acquire:
-94442423101 bearing shell
-477711159B bellows
-477711149 sealing ring (x4)
-93142411100 vibration damper (lower)
-93142411000 vibration damper (upper)
-N01224111 spring washer b 8 x 15 (x2)
-477711155A sealing ring (x4)
-N0124151 circlip 15 x 1

Am I missing anything major or while I'm in there I should also swap out?

Rosepassion.com is probably the best place to find all that. Have you already checked there? You have the diagrams with all the necessary pieces -even the ones not available.

PS: The 944 is probably what is going to make the difference there.

OMG THEY HAVE COLORED PICTURES OF THE PARTS!!!!!!!!! I didn't even think to check there because they're UK/EU based and I didn't want to deal with international shipping and VAT. But I will definitely be using their diagrams and pictures to determine what's what in there. Thank you so much!!

How about the kit from only944?

The car actually came with a only944 shifter sans hardware! I just had to reach out to them and purchase some new hardware for the shifter because the PO lost it somewhere along the way. I also got a new linkage arm as well from them. Their customer support is 10/10 because of how fast they responded and sent out the hardware, and although I can't speak on part fitment just yet, I'm very happy with the quality so far.

I figured while I was in there to swap out the shifter and linkage arm I would also freshen everything else up since I'm not sure if the sloppiness is just from the bar-thingy turning egg shaped (yes ik very technical terms I'm using here) or the egg-shape plus everything else being old and worn.

Update:

New plan of attack is to swap out the shifter bushing, shifter arm, and shifter linkage arm. If I gotta buy the other bits and bobs I named above, I'll do so after we start this chaos. The kits from Only944 came with some supplies for new washers and stuff so I'll see what we can make work first.

Anyone have any advice on how to swap out the bushing? It looks like once you pull out the shifter arm its just a bracket held in place with a hex bolt and bam you're there, but I have a funny feeling it won't be that straight forward.

I'm arming myself with as many instructionals from Clarks, Only944, and Youtube University as we speak and I have the sacrificial 11mm ready to be chopped in half

Update:

New bushing and shifter arm installed. Had some issues with losing 5th and reverse, but figured that out for the most part by flipping around the arm. Next time we get her in air jail we'll be taking it back apart to see if the rubber oval at the very bottom is causing clearance issues when the shifter is on the left.

Bushing was very easy to remove with my handy dandy screwdriver and the thing went flying across the shop. Oops

Up next is replacing the shifter linkage!

Alrighty, took a much longer break from the shifter and linkage than I originally planned on but that's project cars and winter weather. During the in between spurts of working on the car with the brakes and my side quests after replacing the shifter arm, the shifter developed a weird thing. Now when driving the vibrations from the car are trying to back it out of place and it will pop out of gear.

What could be going on there? I am kind of concerned this developed after putting in the new shifter arm and bushing. Is it due to the new bushing being a flat bottom vs a curved bottom on the original?

We decided to remove the weird flat rubber disk that from what I've been told/read on here and from Only944 is for the early 924s and that made it a lot easier to row the gears today. I'm 99% sure it was catching on the rubber (like yall said it probably was) and that's why it was so stiff after replacement. It is still kind of hard to find fifth and reverse, so I am hoping that switching out the shifter linkage with the one from Only944 will help that out.

Is the shift lever perhaps contacting the body in some of those gears? There is some adjustment of the mounting to the torque tube, sliding it fore and aft as I recall, which could play in if you didn't get it back correctly - maybe peel the boot up and look while gears are selected...

But that wouldn't likely affect all gears the same... if that's the case, I'd wonder about gear oil selection and clutch actuation...

It's possible (and probably probable knowing me)?? We had to flip around the shifter arm so the curve sits on the right (someone suggested trying to flip it around whenever I first cried out for help) because we had lost all gears with it being on the left and the rubber disk. I have noticed that when we actually hit the upper part of the tunnel opening, we're able to go into 5th and reverse but when we don't murder the side of the tunnel we can't get in, it feels like it wants to but somethings stopping it.

So I may try to take it back out and flip it back to the left, but then I gotta fight losing the washers in the depths again...... retrieving those stupid things were the hardest part of this whole shifter shebang so far
