Hi guys, new to forum. Have been low key waiting for a 924 to come along in the right condition for the right price having wanted to play with one since I were a child.

This one has come up, and I was hoping to see if any light could be shed on its body, body kit, trim etc? Seller has offered no info other than “it’s a 924” so I’m not sure of year model etc. The car is in Australia, I’m assuming it’s Aus delivered not an import. I’m pretty fresh and inexperienced with these cars but to me this car is looking like a bit of a parts bin mix?

Thanks guys, any clues appreciated.

Looks like some 944 body parts including the diaper, 924t front panel etc. That car looks rough, i know cars are expensive in aus but personally i wouldn't take that car even if it was given to me free,

Definitely rough, but my thing is building cars back from this state or worse. Pretty standard. I’ve brought back cars in far worse state that were probably far less deserving of being saved, but thanks anyway for that input 🤷‍♂️

As far as what I’m actually asking goes tho - thank you. I had found the 924T nose cone with some searching. The 944 front guards also. Body wise, the cars looks like a 944, right? The rear guards would be a graft job though, so I’d have expected to see signs of that coming through in the panels/paint.

I’m seeing the car in person tomorrow so will get more info off it, maybe find some of it’s history.

The car is early-ish. Chrome window trim and a no flap covering the fuel filler cap. A '77 would be my guess.

Yep I’d figured early with the mirrors and interior etc, which suits me fine even though it may mean she’s not the better platform.

The car likely won’t see the road, more of a track thing but I’d still like it to end up tidy-ish.

Ineteresting. I purchased a 924 similar to this with the same fibreglass front end, fenders and rear fenders. I would say they were Australian in origin.

That car was very rust ridden and had no engine so it was scrapped. I did however use quite a number of parts from it including the from fenders and bumper, on a 944. The 944 bits were in a bit of a mess and the fibreglass was easy to salvage and lighter than the steel and plastic stuff from the 944.

I think the front bumper looks much better than the 944 original even though they are similar. It just is a hell of a lot cleaner and neater.

There was a member on this board that made and sold those kits.
If i'm not mistaken another member bought or wanted to buy the molds.

Regarding the car, very rough, from my point of view not worth investing in.
But i understand that the 924 is rare in Australia...what can i say...when prices rise...give me a sign and i'll send you some fresh 924s
But dont take too long as they are also getting rougher and rare over here.

Hiya Bobby

Ooooh. Not the nicest example out there, though I get your enthusiasm. It needs everything.
Check the plate on the rhs inner guard....that will tell you if it was Aus delivered. Check the sills/floors and particularly under the battery for rust. Any issue in any of these areas.......then run away.
The kit is an amalgam of 924T (badge panel), 924GT/944 (front bumper), 944 (front guards, rear guards, rear valance).
If you are going to track it exclusively, then a re-engine and a re-suspension is paramount.
Price should be in the hundreds, not thousands.

Thanks so much for the response. The car has rust above the windscreen but the battery tray, boot wells, sills etc are all perfect. Honestly the car is much better than it shows in the photos. I’m happy with it.

I did end up buying this today, and yes hundreds not thousands.

Yeah, probably a good candidate for a 1.8T swap or such - get the performance to match the looks!

I haven’t seen it yet but I’ll be going through this forum with a fine toothed comb as I go over the car.

It cranks over, brakes shifter and clutch pedal feel good, handbrake works. Apparently the car was running and driving 18 months ago but hasn’t been on the road in…. Over a decade. Maybe 2.

Has no front seats which is a pain.

Step one is getting it running and driving, step 2 is a thorough clean, step 3 is front seats, then it’s rust repair. Then I’ll see where it stands.

At hundreds......for a fairly solid body, that's definitely worth having a go at.
Best of luck, and keep us in the loop.

I am a mechanic and my hobby is picking up cars people usually wouldn’t bother with and doing my best to bring them back to life and have some fun with. I can do everything myself basically. This car will turn heads, can promise that much.

Regardless of your love of restoration I would not recommend this car. Early cars like this were very basic if not optioned up by to the original purchaser. From what I can tell from the pics this is a 4 speed car without AC, Possibly doesn't have sway bars either.
I would suggest finding another car that has better equipment from the factory.

Best of luck!
