Hello

I have owned my 86 924s now for a year. It is on lowering springs all round, and from what i can tell from the history receipts its 30mm springs (designTek) supplied by design911uk so I imagine fairly reputable.

I really love the current ride height but I believe the rears need some sort of shock upgrade to cope with the lower ride height, either that or just one of the rear shocks is on its way out as i am getting major rubbing on one side when the body rolls in the bends.

I didn't do much driving in it in the previous 6 months, but noticed then that on tight turns at any kind of speed especially roundabouts the left side rear rubs quite a bit, yet the right side rear you can throw into bends and its fine

I took the car on a 100mile classic car run this weekend and the rear left rubbed like mad on almost every right hander, you can see where its rubbing on the outer tyre wall

So my question is: to keep the ride height I have, what shocks absorber options do I have for the rears? i dont want to change the feel of the car too much from its classic feel, i just need ever so slightly stiffer shocks - from what i can gather.

Would these do the trick? https://wooliesworkshop.com/products/porsche-924s-944-rear-shock-absorber-sachs

Bit of a newbie so any advice is appreciated. (P.S Im in the UK and struggling to find options for rear shocks)

Pics of car if anyone is interested:

The dampers won't have a big impact on rubbing, if it's rubbing on the outer lip you could either get it rolled, or do an alignment with more negative camber, or get smaller/other wheels . Doesn't the 924S have a special kind of rear damper fitting, i think it was discussed on the 924OC uk forum a while ago, since many resellers apparently aren't fully aware of it.and they aren't easy to find.

Nice car, and nice stance.
Your issue is the offset of the ATEV/AZEV wheels....just a smidge too wide.

It is a little known fact that the left side of ALL 924/944 cars has the rear end slightly offset....only really discernible when the car is set on a jig using Porsche specs.

You don't say whether the tyre is rubbing on the lip of the guard or higher up in the wheel well.
Either way, more negative camber on the rears will help alleviate your problem, albeit at increased tyre wear on the insides.
If it's rubbing on the guard lip, you may consider rolling the edges.
Those Sachs shocks seem to be standard settings.....perhaps Bilstein (gas) or Koni (oil) or some other heavy duty jobbies.
All bushings in the rear end should be checked as well. Worn bushes will allow the rear end to move across under cornering.
You could also re-index the rear torsion bars for a very slight rear ride height increase.
BOL.

Thank you, it is definitely outer lip rubbing on the tyre sidewall, i put my finger along the lip of the arch and melted rubber was all over my fingers. I love the wheels and dont want to change them so maybe time to add some camber. I didnt know about this special damper fitting? will have to look in to that thank you

thank you, i do love the look of the setup, its on pretty big spacers (again previous owner) but looks aggressive and i love it. It is rubbing on the guard lip on the outer tyre wall on just that rear left. Now that you have said about the offset im glad as i thought i was going mad when im looking and thinking the left alignment looks slightly pokier than the right and was wondering if it may have had a shunt in its life some time ago.

I have the same issue with my other car (350z) rubbing on the rears and will need to roll them but im going to have to do both myself as i just cant find anyone in the UK that is interested in rolling arches thats anywhere near me. im just worried about risking cracking the paint when rolling especially on the porsche as its much older paint

Anyone know if there is much adjustment available on stock camber arms on these? or am i going to need to get some adjustable's?

thank you both for your really helpful comments

You've answered your own question! Spacers! Thinner ones or get your's machined down a little....besides....wheels sticking outside the guards is a ricer look....that's your alter ego.
