|
|
My front brake dust shields are rusted to nothing. I see a lot of people choose to just not use them but I am determined to try.
Originals for a 1982 924 NA seem nowhere to be found. However they seem to be plentiful for the 944 or the 924s.
Anyone managed to repurpose a brake dust shield from somewhere else for their 924? There's also lots of generic ones out there, wonder if there's any that fit okay and just require a bit of drilling to get the mounting holes correct. _________________ George

The steering knuckle is the same part number for the 924, 931, and the early 944 for sure.
For some reason the dust shield has different part numbers for all three, although the diagrams look identical for the 931 and early 944.
Anyone happen to have experience trying a 944/931 dust shield for a 924? _________________ George

You may have better luck getting info if you call the part by its correct name. It has nothing to do with brake pad dust. If it did, it would be on the outside of the rotor. It's called a splash guard and it's purpose is to keep water, snow, mud off the brake rotors. _________________ Current project 1981 931

In the PET it's called a "cover plate" (924 80-85, ill. 602-00, part 1). I have mostly seen them being referred to as brake backing plates, not sure why I switched to "dust shield" when I wrote this post.
I found a good condition pair of these from Randy at Whaletail Canada. Super helpful guy and extremely reasonable price. _________________ George

I would try Ebay for used parts or post an ad in the parts sale section here, a lot of us are just stacking shelves of 924 parts lmao. _________________ 1980 931 "Salt" Bucket wannabe racer (Dreaming)

Yep, I've been gathering 924 parts on the side as well, though I'm really a 944 guy. I've heard many people refer to that part as a dust shield. They just don't know any better. _________________ Current project 1981 931

Hello,
simply use a cover plate from a
Ford Mondeo , 93-96
Trailing axle
Parts number 32047940
The three holes for mounting need to be enlarged and the inner rim flattened.
Some adjustments nevessary for the axle steering. _________________ SiegfriedS
