Hello all, I am in the process of replacing the
igition switch an according to the Hayes manual it says to drill out the steering collum tube bolts to slide out the assembly. Is this the only way to get at the key switch? Is it posible to use a dremel wheel and cut slots in these blindheaded bolts and unscrew them? Funny thing is that for reassembly it says to reverse the proceedure. Kind of hard to undrill bolts.

Haynes is right - it is the reverse procedure. But you need to buy a special drill undriller bit. I thinks Haynes sells them!

Drill out bolts to change an ign. switch?? There are no bolts to drill out to change the switch! Everything unbolts. You take off the steering wheel; remove the wiper/turn signal switch; then unscrew the 6mm allen bolt that clamps the casting that supports the column. Then you disconnect the ign switch plug and pry the plastic spacer off of the shaft. Then pull off the casting. The switch is in the casting. You may need to put the key in and turn the switch to dissengage the steering lock. the electric part is held on with a small phillips screw and the key lock has a spring loaded catch that has to be pussed with a small screwdriver to allow the lock to be removed. No screws need to be drilled.
