Maybe for pulling it out of a ditch? I wouldn't tow anything with it, then again that's why I have a 3/4 ton diesel.

Maybe it was for towing a trailer with extra tires for track days.

Don't listen to the yanks! get yourself on here for some sensible answers from our side of the pond https://porsche924.co.uk/forum/index.php were there are one or two who do tow things with their 924, such as a trailer with camping kit in and do road trips to France etc. There are a few guys there who are in Eire and NI too.

thanks for the link, theres plenty of forums for this model.
yes i think the towing duties will be limited to light use only.dog trailer might be on the cards to keep the mutts out of the car.

That wasn't a complaint about the forum, just opinions. There are guys towing with 924's (and 944) in the UK without the need of a 7 litre pick up!

Convincing?
Please check if yours have the extra attachment points forward under the car's back sides.
Otherwise it won't hold heavy duty towing.

Welcome aboard!
Cheerio,
Harm.

cheers harm, now that does look right!

just checked the tow bar on it.its a brinks genuine one with the forward braces onto the chassis legs.seems solid.

i used to tow a track car on a car transporter 200 mile round trip to kirkistown race track (northern ireland) years ago on a very regular bases with just a 1.6 ford sierra with out any problems.

lack of weight in the tow vehicle is not ideal but manageable once your carefull with stopping distances etc.

about a week away from getting this car back on the road having been off it for the last 12 years..........cant wait.

It's true, us yanks aren't used to towing with cars, but when I was across the pond I saw all kinds of little trailers being towed behind various passenger type cars. As a matter of fact as I recall when I was combing through the PET a while back I noticed that a hitch was an available option on the 924 direct from the factory. The most important thing when towing (with any vehicle) is to know the weight capacity that you can safely tow. Also towing use would be considered extreme service and you will want to follow an appropriate maintenance schedule for such use.
