Need some help; whenever I let off the gas I hear a popping noise underneath the car when coasting. It doesn't do it if I push in the clutch. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be ?

Thanks...

Toby

Sound like possibly air's getting sucked into the manifold/exhaust system somewhere, ie a hole.

I've had the same problem twice with my 931, once a hole in the exhaust (bit of welding cured that) and currently (i have a stud bolt missing in the manifold that is being sorted shortly)

Anthony,

Did it sound like the drive shaft maybe going bad ? Or would that make a noise all the time ?

Thanks..

It depends on the popping sound, if its a kind of rasping rally car noise I would think its manifold/exhaust, this tends to occur on the overun and is stopped when the clutch is depressed as the engine is disengaged. However if it is a different kind of popping it is possible the torque tube is dodgy, having never had this I don't know what that sounds like, and I though CV joints clunked rather than popped, heh i'm not a mechanic, so I am willing to stand corrected.
