|
|
Finally had my new bumpers painted and installed . Very pleased with the look:
But on closer inspection the front looks like it's not proper aligned. Looks like it's drooping a bit:
Think it should look like this:
I loosened the mounting bolts a bit to see if I could wiggle it into a better position but it didn't budge. I suspect I'll have to pull the bumper off and modify the mounts though not exactly sure how
Any tips or suggestions on how to approach? _________________ 05 997

You need Euro front fenders for the complete look so to speak. Check with Dan/Ideola, he has a set of these from me in his stock. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

So you're saying the bumper won't mount flush to US fenders? _________________ 05 997

The mounting irons will be bent due to a parking bump probably. Use a washer or two behind the top bolt of the irons to push it forward a touch to realign the bumper. Or buy new irons. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

Yes, that makes sense. The mounting irons looked in good shape but maybe had a slight tweak not readily visible. I'll try a few washers next weekend and see what kind of result that gives. _________________ 05 997

No, they won't, here's mine from a few years ago. The pic doesn't show the gap like it is in 'real' life!
Here's the same bumper on the Euro car I bought, and Dan has these fenders in Michigan. A tighter 'fit'.

I see what you mean. Very interesting. I've always wanted to get rid of the round reflectors anyway... _________________ 05 997

Dave, I didn't bring the fenders, those should still be up at your place in WI...
But I do still have that Euro front bumper...it's interesting to me, everyone always says they want one, and how hard they are to find, but no one is willing to purchase it. Shipping is a killer. I'll be taking it to Hershey, maybe it'll find a new home there. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

The bumper is sold and will be delivered to its new owner at the Hershey swap meet. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

The fit on euro bumpers seems to vary significantly. Suspect this is more to do with the moulding. The ends are quite heavy and unsuported, I suspect they may sag a bit over time. have tried replacement mounts, washer and anything else I can think of on mine with limited results. Its better than some worse than others. _________________ 1983 N/A

Yes, they do appear to sag on each side. Interesting that your experience using washers didn't necessarily fix the issue. I will try and post the outcome. _________________ 05 997

I assuem you are using the euro mounts as well if so use a big hammer and a long bolt through the vertical on the mounts to re align them. What you can find is with your shock absorber type mounts the front panel can be bent a little which then shows up in the saggy look.
The euro mounts are real flimisy things and it doesn't take much to deform them and the panel they mount on. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,
