OK, let's just try (again) to set the record straight. I am not closing the website down.

I asked the group what was thought about moving over to the rennlist boards, due to the fact that those boards are much more advanced than ours, with this form of board taking a huge amount of administration time to just keep running.

It's been repeatedly made abundantly clear to me that there is a very large and vocal disinterest in the idea. This is home, like it or not! :)

It seems very clear that this board will continue to be _the_ 924 resource, so I will not by any means be closing it down. However, I still loathe the idea of maintaining it ad infinitum in its current state. So, I would like to look towards advancing up to the next level of technology for discussion boards.

Before I'm prepared to accept contributions, I will look in more detail to the infopop software (SW), to get a much more detailed picture of how it works and how much it would cost. Once I come back with that, if you guys can help out with funding a transition, I think it'll be worthwhile.

Stay tuned, I'll keep working on this, fit it into my racing schedule...

One last note - I'm thrilled to see that we have evolved into such a cohesive community! We really are going to have to do something more personal sometime...

Cheers,

Vaughan

Vaughan,

what are the specs on the 924.org host and hosting service?

As a part-owner in two hosting companies down here I'll put my hand up to look into the discussion board. Both companies have multiple 2 Megabit pipes to the backbone so I don't think that bandwidth should be a problem. The servers are all Unix-based so we have access to a world of open-source software - there might not be any smiley-face icons but I suppose we can all live without that.

This offer is only for the discussion board, I couldn't do justice to the rest of the site.

The rest of you guys...

start thinking real hard about what works and what doesn't on the 924.org discussion board. I know that those of you who have dial-up connections must find refreshing 1 Meg. of Lars's ideas on the origin of the 924 mill a bit of a pain, with broadband who care.

Anyway, this is a winter-only offer and winter only lasts about 12 weeks down here.

Peter in Sydney AU.

Didn't you hear me before! its a cult! stick together! promote door to door that the 924 is a good car! not a cheap glorified volkswagon/audi/amc!!!

Now eat your watery soup and look over the rules.

Oh, yeah, I do find the idea of linking to an externally-hosted board quite acceptable...

Will have to dig up the info, maybe put you in touch w/ John Brown - if I can get ahold of him myself. He's been out of touch, but coordinates all that side of things still...

OK, then I'll have a look at what's available and can be modified for our needs.

It'll take a few days to get some examples together. I'll put what I find on one of the servers and you and the guys can throw stones at them and see if we can reach a consensus.

Now, to find something that only allows 2 personalities per customer....

Peter.

As probably the oldest on this forum I agree with most of the group that we continue this site. I would be willing to pay a fee to continue it in order to upgrade the site.
I have never found a nicer bunch of guys as I found on this list. It is easy to communicate and it is easy. Sure, we get a lot of newbies but hey we all had to start somewhere. I have had my 924 track car since new,1977 and still have it. I can't let it go. I have too much fun with it. I have other Porsches, 87 targa, 85.5 944 and my loved 79 931 Euro. The track car is still my favorite. I can toss it at will at the track and can have it fixed easily.
As much as I think well of John Dunkle and the Rennlist I appreciate this list most of all. I just sent pictures of Watking Glen from this weekend to John for him to post. I will do the same for Vaughn. Look for a red 924GTS on the Rennlist. So, keep up the good work and I will see you later.
