Guys,

I have just picked up a points ignition system 924 and some one has been playing with it and it doesn't run. The guy I brought it off reckoned it never ran and the previous owner mentioned something about the coil being wrong.

the coil wiring is : From the wiring loom to terminal 15 (+) there a black wire with yellow trace and also a green wire with yellow trace, in addition there is another green wire that runs from the coil to the dizzy. From the loom a green wire runs to coil terminal 1 (-).

My thoughts are that some one has reversed the wires and the black and green wires with the yellow trace should be on teminal 1 and the green wires on terminal 15.
All my wiring diagrams are for electronic ignition units and the colours don't match - anyone out there with a per 79 924 with points who can tell me the correct colors to terminals 1 and 15?

Thanks

John

Has anyone got an early Haynes manual with the points ignition wiring diagram,

Surely there is still some one out there with an old 924 with points it - mine can't be the only one left running?

Hi John,

My Haynes manual (for points dissy 77.5 to 78 ) shows the following:
2-off yellow wires running from control module to dissy.
'bk' Black wire running from control module to terminal-1 of coil.
'bk/bl' Black/Blue wire running to terminal-15 of coil.

Interestingly the 79 & 80 shows:
'bk & 'gr' black & green wires running to terminal-1 of coil.
terminal-15 wires are clear.
(these are same as on my car which has breakerless dissy)

I can scan the pages and email to you if you wish.

Cheers,
Santo

ok ive serched high and low for this wireing and cant find it anywhere in my old manuals.it shows all of them without points systems.rule of thumb... should have 2 wires going to positive side of coil. One come live with key on and is low volts (about 7.5) the other should go hot on crank with 12 volts. On the negative side should be 1 wire that runs to the distrbuter. Now this is what i have seen on all North american cars, never seen a porsche set up but i would think it would be similar. Hope this will give you some things to check and set it up.Dave
