Hello everyone. My names Dennis & I am from Cleveland Ohio. Im 52 and have always wanted a Porsche, well I guess you can call this my mid-life crisis car. Both my kids are grown and out of the house, my wife has a 2003 Mustang thats is her baby, so I went & found a toy for myself.
My new addition is a 1987 924s with sunroof delete and basic options, a very simple start for me. She has 135,000 miles and is originally from Texas. She came to Ohio in 1998 after getting a fresh Gaurds Red paint job. She also has an after market front spoiler, a 944 rear spoiler and I was told they are turbo side skirts and rear wheel flairs. The clutch & timing belt are both just over a year old.
I have had to do some repairs already. I replaces all the locks, 1 door handle was broken, I rebuilt the power steering rack, changed out a worn out shifter handle and have had to change out the posistion sensor. I picked up a spair rear hatch and plan on re-sealing the glass on that one and then I will be installing it on the car since the original glass is also pulling away from the frame. I also put on some new tires, since the old ones were over 12 years old, looked good, but to old for my comfort level. I hope to start doing some mods to her next summer, once I get used to having a porsche in my garage.

Denis - welcome to the forum - I've found it to be a great source of info for keeping my '82 924 running like new. First of all, I wonder where the previous owner got the front air dam and rocker panel parts. I haven't seen anything like them.
Secondly, you have a unique car in great condition. Your engine photos are not of a typical 924 engine. According to wikipedia 'For the 1986 to 1988 model years the car acquired the powerplant from the 944 model and became the Porsche 924S." It appears that the distributor runs off the front of the camshaft, the plugs are on the opposite side, and the fuel injection system and air cleaner are different - and it might be a 2.5 liter 944 engine. But the car body is clearly a 924. Might be worth a chat with the previous owner. - Peter |

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think that all 924S's had the 944 2.5L engine. IIRC, there was a surplus of 924 shells, so they stuck 944 running gear and the 2.5L motor into the 924 left overs to use them up.

You're perfectly correct, but I don't think everyone knows this (I didn't until I looked it up) - and I think that it makes the car unique - and something a new owner should know about.... no one else mentioned it. - Peter |

 I think you might've misunderstood, there, pmcaya2. The car is a 924S and the original poster clearly identifies it as such. There's nothing particularly special about it, in the sense of limited run or a special model or whatever. It was just another production 924 in the series.
It's certainly a nice car (to generalize about 924S's) and in my humble opinion, a better car than the models that preceded it. But ultimately it's just the final production evolution of the 924. There were roughly twenty thousand of them built.
The five-hundred 924SE cars were slightly special...
