Hi Everyone,

I'm just about to put the gearbox back in my '83 924 Lux, and have noticed that the rubber insert in one of the mounts that attaches the gearbox to the floor of the car is no longer bonded to the metal outer of the mount (hope that makes sense - not a very good description!!). Should I change the mount - if so will a second hand one do? and also would this account for the 'clunk' that I used to hear when I accelerated from slow speeds (I assumed it was the clutch, so have changed it)

Thanks
Peter

I too had seperated mounts for the tranny. I would suggest you get good ones whether new or used. It looked like the rubber would fall out so I changed them.

Well, not just the clunking noise - it also used to pull away really jerkily (when I removed the old clutch, 2 of the springs in the friction plate were broken). But I wondered if one of the gearbox mounts being shot would make it even worse? Changing the clutch was a LOT of work - never again!!

yes, change the mounts, they should be bonded in one piece.

I have a nice set of transmission mounts if you need them. They were new about 2000 miles ago, but that was also 5 years ago as the car has been sitting for awhile. Thought I would let you know.
