I recently picked up an 81,942 turbo. Not a bad buy I thought for $300.00 Body is straight needs paint. It has been sitting for seven years. the previous owner started it to show me it does run but very poorly. ( I know now this was a bad thing from reading the discussions here) The question is were do I go from here. I am no Stranger to turning a wrench, but OMG this is different. I have oil that comes from the air oil separator like water from a garden hose. I had done a compression test 120 all cylinders. there is also a lot of pressure when I remove the oil cap from the valve cover. The pugs have some oil on them when removed. haven't checked anything out in the fuel distribution yet.

You bastard! I paid more than that for a parts car! Good deal...yeah!

Good compression.

First off, how much oil is in that thing?

Next, it sounds like the breather hose that goes to the top of the air/oil separator is plugged. The hose comes from a fitting on the driver side near the back, under the intake manifold. There is a screen baffle in that fitting that notoriously plug up and there is no way to replace it. Pull that hose off the separator and see if you can blow through it. Assuming you are going to change the oil (please!), you can flush the hose and fitting out with gas or carb cleaner when you drain the pan.

Check those first. Good luck, Troy.

your air /oil seperator is sending oil to your intake system which is getting sucked into the engine, causing the dirty plugs . with compression at 120 on all cylinders I would think that engine is in great shape and just needs to be cleaned up . neww oil seperator , plugs and wires, air filter ,oil change , etc. general tune up . then when its running better you can check your emmissions components , timeing ,injectors and fuel pressure etc. to find the cause of the poor running problem . you may have found a gem that needs a little TLC .

The oil level is normal, it is not a constant flow but when I reve the engine slightly is when it shoots out. I will look at what you told me and get back to you, Thank you very much I was afraid it was major.

If the oil is blowing out, it probably isn't plugged right?

If oil is shooting out, the air vent line could be plugged and the crankcase is building up pressure forcing the oil out from the pan. You don't need a new separator, you just need to clean it and all the associated lines out. There is no filter-type material inside.

Oil and gasoline are cheap, change both before you start it again (if you haven't already!)

Its possible you have a lot of gasoline in the oil pan....very hard to see on the dipstick.

when u put in new gas make sure you run something like stp FI cleaner or something like that, once you have car running fine red line it alot and drive hard to clean out any carbon buildup

Well, gentleman I hate to say it but there is definitely more wrong. I did change the oil, after I drained it I noticed it had antifreeze mixed in. first suspect in my head was head gasket. I just finished puling the head, gasket looks good. As a matter of fact I think the head has been changed. the top of 2 pistons have marks in them from a valve hit. But the head looks real good. I will keep you posted. Any advice welcome. After all I am new at this.

Its possible that the excessive pressure in your motor was being caused by a bad head gasket or a cracked head allowing combustion gasses to enter the oil pan.

All good tips guys. I would stick with the cheap fixes first. Clean out the lines from the oil seperator and clean out the mouse nests everywhere. Drain the tank and oil and put in fresh. change all the filters (oil and fuel). Put a can of Techron (Chevron fuel system cleaner)in the fresh fuel. That'll give it a fighting chance. Change the plugs (Bosch Platinums, the best!) If she still is belching oil out I would check the head for cracks but not before all the other simple stuff is done. Keep us posted if you get electrical problems too. Stored cars tend to develope problems there too. Grounds all over the place get corroded. Keep it up.

And blown head gaskets usually look fine, rarely show the problem. However, you'd better have the head checked by a machine shop for flatness. If it's warped, either have it heated and straightened (not skimmed, the cam bearings will be out of line) or replace it.
