Reading old mail and came across a post by Dreangts regarding languages and stolen cars.
I speak 5 and the oddest is Arbereshe which is very old Albanian. I am very fluent in it since it is the first language I spoke. It is spoken in Italy by about 80K people. It is dying as the infuence of Italian and other languages thought negates using it.
It is very old and if I had to speak to a modern day Albanian I would have a hard time understanding them. Modern albanian changed due to the Moslems invasion of the late 1400s.
I did speak to a Albanian linguistics teacher and he said I speak the old language Arbereshe as if Shakespeare spoke to an American today.

So does anyone speak an odd language? .

Indian / I used to speak it. See in between when i was young splitting
my time in between my parents working and with friends It was like
being taken by wolfs during the day & returned
by indians during the night. So I learned from them both ..

The indians spoke 2 me as I learned to hang with them during
the day & not so much with the wolfs. They didnt speak to much bout numbers like the wolfs did..

Ahh good memories. That kind of stuff is still is done, I dont know. I speak 4 of them by the way.

Took French and Latin in boarding school. Tried to forget as much as possible. My French has turned into rotten Franglais, and my Latin can be summed up thusly: Quantum ille canis est in fenestra? That's rotten usage as well.

What I did get out of my studies was a view to how English evolved and was/is influenced by other languages.

Exposed to too many languages as a kid to keep them all straight now...

I did find etymology, which is the study of the roots of words (as you describe) to be a very very interesting class...

Handful of words of, gee, how many?

Latin
Greek (per etymology - no hope of saying one useful word to the Greek sitting across from me)
Russian
Italian
Portuguese
Spanish
French
German
Japanese (well, enough to order a beer)

Dutch seems pretty easy, a funny mix of English and German with a head cold or something...

You know mon on a serious note i wish i could say irish
though no thats not it.

A handle of words and could learn to understand and converse,
Id have tio say Hungarian. Yup thats the ship i floated in on.
Used to fish from it as a kid as i had a close friend whos family was
the same . He had 3 bros and a sister. They were into all sorts of cool
hobbies and stuff. Our families were friends. I used to ride my bicycle over to his house it was a big accomplishment.

Kernewek (Cornish) evolved from the British language spoken throughout Britain south of the Firth of Forth during the Iron Age and Roman period. Some scholars have proposed that the language split into Western and Southwestern dialects, perhaps after the Battle of Deorham in about 577

Its spoken by about 2000 people. My Cornish is very Pigeon.
Here is an illustration of some of the differences and similarities between the Celtic languages using the phrase 'I live in Cornwall:

* Cornish - Trigys ov yn Kernow
* Breton - E Kernev-Veur emaon o chom
* Welsh - Dw i'n byw yng Nghernyw
* Irish - Tá mé i mo chónaí i gCorn na Breataine
* Scottish Gaelic - Tha mi a' fuireach anns a' Chòrn
* Manx - Ta mee cummal ayns y Chorn
* English - I live in Cornwall

I cutted-and-pasted stuff from The Internet, too;

The Klingon language is something truly unique. While there have been other artificial languages, and other languages crafted for fictional beings, Klingon is one of the rare times when a trained linguist has been called upon to create a language for aliens. Add to this more than a quarter-century of the Star Trek phenomenon, a mythos that has permeated popular culture and spread around the globe. These factors begin to explain the popularity of the warrior's tongue.

Klingon was invented by Marc Okrand, for use in some of the Star Trek movies. He invented not just a few words to make the Klingons sound alien, but a complete language, with its own vocabulary, grammar, and usage.

* Hello. (Roughly, "What do you want?") - nuqneH
* What's happening? - qaStaH nuq?
* I don't understand. - jIyajbe'
* Don't be silly. - yIDoghQo'
* Go away. - naDevvo' yIghoS

so..... quite a new language then really. Don't tell me, your Klingon is as pigeon as my Cornish; limited to greetings and few simple questions about food.
And... they broadcast the local news in Klingon too, do they khal??? then post it on the tinternet in a media player in case you miss it.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/cornwall/hi/people_and_places/arts_and_culture/newsid_8334000/8334308.stm

Although, there are probably more people that speak Klingon than Cornish,
