|
|
OK......here's the question........wouldn't it be easier to take a turbo 944 and build a 924CGT clone from it rather than taking a 924 and installing a 944 turbo drivetrain and then building the body into a 924CGT clone?
I'm just wondering which route requres less time and money to get to the end result of a 924 Turbo?
You see....I've pondered making a 924 CGT clone using a 944 Turbo drivetrain.......but I'm starting to think I'd be better off taking a Turbo 944 and replace the rear 1/4 panels with 924 quarter panels and then installing the 924CGT rear fender flares and the CGT nose panels.
Opinions? _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)

Yes, it would be significantly easier to just weld the rear 924 quarters on the 944 Turbo than it would be to swap all the 944 Turbo bits into a 924S. But... it wouldn't really be a 924. _________________ 1981 931 CGT replica, OEM CGT intercooler, .8 BAR WG spring, GTS Headlights, Innovative Wide band A/F, A/C delete, 16" Fuchs, Weltmeister 200lb lowering springs, Bilstein HDs front, Koni Sport rears. |

| But it would already have tons of updates that would be nice on a 924. |

Someone had pics of one of these built a while back. I think it's a fine idea. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I think the one real giveaway would be the newer 944 dash......which looks better but would give it all away. _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)

cant say that the new dash looks better...it looks newer..thats for sure..but from the style and character point of view...hmm.
anyway...it would be a shame to destroy the 951....the 951 is equaly beautyfull as the CGT...i would never do such a thing...i'd proudly drive the 951 as it is _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

I agree with you on all accounts. I'd enjoy owning a '89 951......they are a fine car on all accounts as far as I can tell. _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)

There are so many 951 on the road (in contrast to the 931), so cutting one up wont be a loss . To bad it has the new interior which is boooring, but at least it easily gets lots of power. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Of course to make a late model 924 Turbo by convertting a 951 using 924 fenders and quarter panels would be easier.....but the crowning touch would be to install a 931 hood and front vent panel.
Thus it would be a late model 931 and at car shows it could easily be bluffed off as an "unknown one-off factory prototype".
I think that would be cooler than a vintage 931.......you'd get more HP and better suspension etc plus...power steering. Sure the vintage 931 are very special.....but a newer model 931 would be very interesting indeed.
It would have to have Euro bumpers to complete the car show deception.
This could actually be quite amusing at car shows.....chatting with the 944 experts....
The only real loss would be having to run nawrrower ties to fit under the 924 wheel wells.
What is the widest tires you can run from and back on the 924 without have rubbing issues? _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)

This with CGT hood scoop and 931 vented badge panel would be my take.

a CGT could be made out of the 951...a 931 not...think wide suspension and narrow body. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Thats an easy fix, just swap some suspension bits. Or use super high ET wheels _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

I'd take a stock 951 over 99.99% of the 931's on this forum... _________________ --Alex--

OK........what years of 951 are good years? Any years with weaknesses that should be avoided.
The 88 Turbo S is out because I want a guards red car with black interior.
An 89 Turbo is out as I think they are too nice of a car for this sort of project. _________________ 1981 931 (Canadian car)
