Not sure what type of seats you’re using but as it looks as if you’ve got two drivers and you’re going to use the existing seat mounts I have the following comment.
1. Use both the drivers and passengers locking runners on the drivers seat
2. Use Aluminium angle to mount the seat to the runners – something at least like a 100 mm x 100 mm x 6 mm (4 inch x 4 inch by 1/4 inch?) running parallel with the runners. This should be bolted to the seat with at least 8-mm bolts.
3. Once you’ve got the set in place and set up for both drivers drill a couple of holes for some 8 mm bolts through the floor.
4. Weld a decent size plate to the floor threaded for the 8 mm bolts.
5. When racing you bolt the seat into the fixed location.

The factory seat mounts are only 6 mm and these will weaken over time. I’ve raced a GT for 14 years and although we use the original mounts for the seat runners when racing the seat is bolted into the fixed position. This only came about as I noticed that the seat was moving around a bit on h G corners. On removal of the seat to replace it we found 3 out of the 4 factory mounts had fractured.

As someone else has said – don’t be tight on money on the roll cage – the same applies for the seat and seat mounting.

I run a kevlar seat with a mounting system similar to described above and have found that it provides the flexibility to allow others to drive the car if required (allowed) and yet provides the strength to stay in one place when or if you have an accident.

John: I will revisit the seat mounting layout. Maybe a plate bolted and welded to the existing location with the seat brackets mounted on top would be good and holes tapped to adjust the seat and do away with the adjustable stock sliders. I feel that the seats (fibreglass) and mounting assembly we have now is too "wobbly".

The original road seat is back int he car at present but I can take photo's of the seat itself along with the base. (probably won't be till the week end)
Yoy'll find the fibreglass/kevlar seats etc all move a bit at the top if you wobble them. Proof of the mount is when you sit in it and start pushing the car hard round cormers genrating G forces. Full harness plus a firm base helps to stop the seat moving.

Done some designing on a more secure seat mount and came up with the following:

Metal plate welded and bolted to stock location with threaded bolts thru the plate that we can set the seat on and use nuts from the top. Bolt/stud combo would be spaced for each driver which means no sliding adjustments.

I also measured from top seatbelt mounting point(left to right) and as close as I can get it is 50 1/2 inches. I am going to make up a bar that mounts across the car and is bolt in. Do you have any made-up prints for one?

We have stripped 245.5 lbs out of the car, but, today I tested my scales and found they are .5lb low at 5lb and 1.5lb low at 15lbs. I'm going to find more accurate scales.

BTW: My Team Driver has a disscussion going on in the General area also.

summit racing uses this concept for there rci seat mounting 2 pieces of angle bolted together to form a u shape.1 peice bolts to the floor the other bolts 2 the seat these are thwn bolted together. They can be bolted at an angle if you want the seat to be tilted forward or backward. This is what I am goin to use.

Thats it they do fracture I had one nut on each of the original seats pull out of the floor..
just from age.
