um yeah. I sold the 924 because I couldn't stand looking at that beige color.

the bmw was a nice car and I had my friend inspect it (in a mechanic shop on a lift) and it drove nice and looked like it was in good condition.

only problem was the 94 bmw had more rust on it than some 80s hondas (lower part of the body (sides). It was a car from eastern canada and with that kind of rust I didn't want to pay 3 grand for it as it would be hard to sell afterwards. I ended up not buying it and the guy selling it seemed pretty desperate he kept on phoning my cell asking me if I want the car.

I'm not getting rid of my 944 but it's going to be down for a while while I take it apart.

Oops, that was supposed to be pissed off, not pissed at.

Anything that gets Tim off this board is a good thing.

He may be annoying, but at least he's harmless.

Over the years, I've learned not to stare at train wrecks.

Timstar (yummy924 or something like that on rennlist) is just fantastic, I have been watching with much interest how his 944 coupler repair is moving along, it really is fantastic reading and all I can see happening is the poor bastard doing more damage than he already has. He is currently in the process of cutting the coupler off with a hacksaw, I have no history hear with tim so I can just sit back and enjoy the show.

what ?! ...the coupler can be slided to the gearbox side so that it clears the torque tube shaft.

Unless you are a 924 or 944.

Or unless you are a motorist using the same roads where he racked up $2800 in fines for speeding.

Well, then, we have nothing to worry about for several months, as the coupler is hardened steel and will probably take him a case of hack saw blades to cut through, especially given his apparent lack of physical prowess.

from what I was told that coupler is not hardened steel but the torque tube is.

I tried cutting it off because the coupler is stuck on the shafts and won't budge (bolts are out), possibly because when it stripped pieces of metal shavings are stuck in there and locking it in place.

I'm probably going to end up paying a shop to replace my torque tube/ clutch and coupler and it's going to probably cost me 17 hours in labour.

I have already ordered in a new clutch kit, I have a used coupler and I found a used torque tube.

I don't have any more time left to try and fix it myself so I'm going to have to pay a porsche shop to do it....

I have already removed my exhuast, cv axles and loosened the trans bolts (to bellhousing) but that coupler is stopping me from making anymore progress.

and the reason this whole thing happened is due to my previous owner. He replaced the clutch at some point and he must of not torqued down the coupler bolts properly and it came loose and stripped the teeth.

without removing the coupler I can't tell if the porsche shop lied to me when they said both the coupler / tq tube are stripped so I have to go with what they said and also buy a tq tube and pay for it's replacement.

well now I know why people say cheap porsches are not cheap to own.

I probably just had bad luck though, the tq tube / coupler stripping is pretty rare with 924s/ 944s, never heard of anyone else stripping a tq tube.

The coupler is made from a material that cracks and breaks into pieces when forced (with a screwdriver inserted into those long cutouts that give it the flexibility)

Good choice with the shop....you are right..i didnt think about the fact that the coupler might be stuck. Why do you want a new clutch ? is it slipping? If you dont replace the clutch and the TT is in good shape...then you can get away with just about 3 hours of labor instead of 17 as you only need the coupler replaced.

It's always been my belief that some people just shouldn't own cars (and yet others shouldn't breed)
