How's this for an idea? Remove the torque tube from your 'ghetto' 924 and plug it into your 944. Then lose the 924, as it's the ghetto-est one in history - no great loss! |
I just actually found out, or rather was told on rennlist that it's possible that my torque tube shaft might be okay because it's harder metal than the transmission coupler so it might just be a damage transmission coupler which is like 40 bucks on ebay. But I have to make time to remove the transmission.
I already thought about this but I don't know if a 79 924 would have the same torque tube as a 85.5 944. If this is true then I would use the torque tube from this car once I get my 944 apart.
About the transmission grinding. I don't understand what some people here are talking about. I'm not going to spend 1000s to fix up this car. It's obviously not worth fixing up so I'm just going to drive it until it blows the transmission or something big breaks.
I'm going to try and put some new sythetic oil in the transmission and that might help.
and I live in vancouver Canada, a good running 924 81-82 if you can even find one wouldn't sell for less than a 1000 bucks.
people here are forgetting I paid 400 bucks for a driveable car and are talking about how it may need expensive repairs and might have a bit of rust. I know people here love calling others idiot and feeling important but i'm not an idiot and I didn't buy this car to spend 10 grand on and try and turn it back into a nice car.
I was going to buy a newer vehicle (like an echo) but I'm graduating from school in the summer and probably leaving B.C for a while so I changed my mind about paying 5 grand for a newer vehicle. |

I might keep the 924 even after I get my 944 fixed. the engine seems to run good. This 924 atually drives much better than my previous 924, maybe because of the 5speed transmission.
the car also seems more powerful than my previous 924. It didn't feel much slower than my 944 and felt pretty stable at highway speeds. It's just a bit ugly. |

hey listen man...nomatter how you turn this....when many people tell you that you're an idiot...you are...just take it like a man, try and be better and it will go away.
now....to prove that....i cannot belive you did not take a look at the damage on your 944.......you just have to get under the car...pull out the inspection rubber and look !!! (there is a #### window just there for inspection) i'm thinking the coupler is trashed and the TT and gearbox are fine....if this is so.....you've spent 500+ for a 924 you didnt need or want. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

my 944 is lifted up right now and I'm deciding whether I should attempt to pull the transmission myself.
obviously I checked in the rubber inspection hole and the coupler is tight ont he driveshaft right now. I'm guessing the porsche shop tightened it up, that's why it drives right now, but it's probably damaged.
you can't check to see if it is damaged until you pull the transmisson. All you can do with the trans in is to loosen the coupler and move it forward and backward but you can't see inside it to see if it is stripped.
and what am I suppose to do take the bus for a month or so it takes me to pull the transmission.
I have like an hour or 2 a week at most to work on the car.
I didn't feel like taking the bus for the next month or so, so I just bought the 924. _________________ 78 924 sold.

if anyone from the outside read this entire thread from start to finish they would most certainly be left wondering what the exact purpose of this forum might be. To me it seems like an outlet for angry and/or bitter people to unleash hostility towards others without any real reason or purpose. The real kick is that there seem to be people just waiting around to take it... and they do take it... the way you do in a prison shower.
I know these cars are German and perhaps I'm grasping at straws here but perhaps the Germans in their highly evolved intelligence have found a way to brainwash those who drive their vehicles into becoming Nazi's. So we have a couple hundred little Nazi's running around without any real identifiable group of people to hate so they do what people usually do when they lose an external adversary, they turn on themselves. Now we've found ourselves in a self-destructive frenzy all cyber gassing one another in this little concentration camp we know as 924board.
What I'm trying to say is, Tim I'd like to take a ride in your 924. _________________ '79 Porsche 924

Jack, Timstar has over 2000 posts and joined 4 years ago. You and I have just joined this year. There's probably some history here; I don't think it's really the place of us newbs to jump into this discussion and defend either side. _________________ 1988 924S Navy Blue - Phone Dials |

At 77 posts, bunny-boy, there's way more history here than you are privy too. You would do well to catch up on some of that history (our starry-eyed friend here, our so-called peace-lover here) before you chide the community for intolerance. If we're intolerant of timbo, we have good reason to be. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

lololol that turn of phrase is pleasantly 'diminutive'. Not too harsh, just condescending enough to slightly startle, allusions to childhood naivete, conjures images of hopping...lol

For your benefit, what I've written about Timstar in the past:
| Chrenan on Rennlist wrote: | Yummybud924 used to post as Timstar (and Timstar92404, and various iterations) over on 924board.org. He is an absolute legend over there, his name is still taken in vain by the regular members.
He was a young kid who bought a 924 because it said "Porsche" on the front and expected it to keep pace with a new Lambo. He bought a very worn-out example for too much money. He then proceeded to make it worse using his ham-fisted mechanical skills and lack of funds. All the while, he would post non-stop questions on the board, repeat questions until he got the answer he wanted (usually from himself), ignore members advice, insult the 924 and blame his issues on the design, insist it wasn't a real Porsche, and so on.
He was hands down the most aggravating member I have seen there in 6 years. He was so insulting to the 924 it was shocking. I mean seriously, he was on a 924 enthusiast board, you'd think he would understand that we were all fans there and would take offense. Still, he belittled the 924 during his stay there and still expected the members to give him advice and guidance. Not a class act at all.
Even now, years after his departure from our quiet little message board, when a new member arrives with similar posting traits, someone will always say, "Is this another Timstar?". |
Thanks for your input JackRabbit, and for jumping to conclusions about the members here, and implying we are Nazis. Have fun getting help with your issues. Maybe you and Tim can form a break-away 924Board? _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

At least you are keeping one 924 out of the scraper for a while.
I have been working on a 79 for a month and it is a nice car now.
We have a program In B.C. where the Provincial gov. will pay you for your pre 96 car as long as it is complete no parts missing then they crush it they want to dry up the supply of used parts to get polluting cars of the road. _________________ 77.5 project car have never driven. burgundy

but here's something this forum needs to remember, and I really can't stress this enough...

I think cgalyon made a good point that some of us are pretty new here and this is obviously tension and something larger that we weren't here for nor fully understand. We're all guests on this board, think of it like a house and you were invited to hang out and talk. i wouldn't expect someone to come into my place and get involved with a discussion/argument/dispute/or conversation with tension if they had no idea what was going on. Even though you appear to be trying to mediate and help out, i'm offering an outside perspective having only really "lurked" this thread. I'd say it would be in our best interests to remain neutral and not get involved for us new guys. I offer no insight to this thread as a whole as this is not my battle, however, I'm offering an outside perspective as you can see your responses have sparked other responses that you may not have anticipated. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)
