|

I was planning to run 245 45 16 tires on the back of my car, but now that I look, Im not sure I will have the clearance. The rim is 8"id so 225 50 16 would be its match, but I have read alot about people running 245s on their 8" porsche rims. ( maybe if the rims were 9", the extra inch would extend inside, and there would not be a problem, but I know I have read statements from other guys with carerra flares running 8" fuchs, and they said they had 245s and they fit.) I dont know if the tire is going to clear my fiberglass flare. I assume since a 225 is approx 9" of tread, and a 245 is approx10" of tread, I would be coming another .5 inch closer to my flare. That seems to be cutting it awfully close. The tires in the photos are 225 45 16 with rim protection. I cant make up my mind, and when that happens I turn to you guys.

I don't have the GT-Racing products so I can't tell you for sure but my GT flares can only handle a 245/50/15 and that's at a maximum. |

| the top of the tire travels inward slightly as the suspension travels up. That is what makes it hard for me to guess whether or not 245 45 16 tires will fit. You almost have to try them to know, but I dont want to go to the trouble to mail order tires that I cant use. |

Exactly. Do you really want/ need the 16's?
You could always find the specs and measure or compare side to side at a local tire store.
Take a measurement of what you have now and think about it. An inch can be a lot. In fact it can be too much. |

It seems to me, from your photos, that going up the extra 1/2 inch (actually, it's nearer 3/8") is going to be cutting it too fine.
However, if your flares are the same size as Neil's, the 245/45/16 tyre should fit because it's the same size (in terms of rolling diameter) as the 245/50/15 that fit Neil's...
Why not stick with what you've got? Those tyres have plenty of life in them yet and they fill the arches quite nicely! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

i'm runing 245/40/17 on 8.5" wheels with no problems...and i too have a CGT body...you cant stick your thumb between the fender and the wheel at the top...but thats because i'm running 25mm spacers. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

You're running the factory spacers with 23mm offset wheels. Take out the spacer and you'll have plenty of room - you won't have any problems with backspace clearance either.
If you can run a 225 on the rear with stock fenders, you can definitely run 245 with flares! In fact, with the spacer gone, you can sit 265's in there and you'll have the same clearance you have now. _________________ 1980 931S

my tires are not lookin so good actually. And this car does not run wheel spacers. The 86 944 turbo wheel is joined directally to the 87 924s hub. No spacer.

| I would suggest an alignment for your car before too many miles with the new tires, that's horrible wear. |

That tire was nearly bald when i put it on. The cord was not showing as it is now but it was rough. I put these tires on to see how 225 45s looked as opposed to 225 50s. The wear pattern is from another car.
The original wheels and tires that came off this car were showing very nice even wear. |

I'm running 255/40 R17 (Cup1's, late offset) on narrow-body 924 NA and no rubbing. Though it needed wheel well lips to be rolled when changing to '86 951 alloy arm suspension.
With steel arms and stock spacers no rolling was necessary. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
