Looking at a car for sale that's advertised as:

Quote:
1981 Porsche 924 turbo, needs engine rebuild think piston rings are shot. still runs. Low compression. *snip*

Coming from an 87 924S, I know that some engine problems can be catastrophic to the wallet, how does engine work for the 931 compare to the 924S/944?

Any chance that this car's engine is fine and is just having wastegate issues?

I haven't heard back from the seller yet so I don't know if the "low compression" was diagnosed by a mechanic or if the seller is just guessing.

the 931 is actually pretty common to have broken piston rings, however isnt that expensive to replace them and the bearings, may need a hone, but is possible that you may need new pistons.

Ask to see the compression results and have a peak at the plugs.

This may be moot as the seller hasn't returned my call yet... I'm beginning to think the car has been sold.
