Alright, I found another fine technique for making myself paranoid!
I was playing around with my steth on my new 931 (which is coming along pretty well), and pressed it against the turbo housing. It seems like it ought to be pretty quiet at idle, but I could hear a distinct "scuff scuff scuff scuff" sound, a couple times per second. Is this the impellor scraping the housing, or am I being a paranoid nut?
Anyone else ever steth'd their turbo? Anyone wanna try it and tell me how it sounds?

P.S. The turbo seems to spin up smoothly. . .makes that nice compressor sound with fairly light throttle at around 2200 RPM. . .and pulls HARD. |

Well, I got the answer at last. I had the downpipe off to replace a couple of studs, and jiggled the turbo shaft. Y'know how the guy in the Haynes manual is using a micrometer to measure axial play?
I COULDA USED MY THUMB!
But, instead of crying about it, I started tearing into it. . .exhaust is on the ground, wastegate is in hand (I like how it says PORSCHE).
So, I guess I should dismantle the wastegate while it is off, eh? Do you guys think I should go for the "hybrid" from Majestic, or some other rebuilder? Is the hybrid pressure pipe mod easy or hard?
TIA

Sorry, someone around here had Majestic build them a turbo with a KKK hotside and a Garrett compressor...bolt-up, except for the intake. So, there would need to be some adapter to get everything dialed into the factory intake plumbing.

P.S. Oh yeah, and what about Blaylock Turbo. Pretty persuasive website. _________________ Toofah King Bad

I'd go with a hybrid turbo, k26 hotside and garrett compressor... it'd be worth it imo. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |
