Well, this old f@rt would love to be a pimply faced teenager again.
Don't know what a shrink would call it, but some of those guys have such deep seated insecurities that they must continually post trivia to try to convince everyone else how great they are. Picking on the 924 is their way of saying "look, I am better than someone" when in actual fact, he is just showing his ignorance of Porsche history. Ignoring them will, in essence, remove the audience and hopefully slow down the garbage.

Well said dpw. Even my kids are past the pimply-faced teenager stage. It's getting pretty anal for a Porsche owner to bag a Porsche model. And there are worse parts bins to use than VW-Audi..
Time these boys got busy on another hobby. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

i cant believe these types of threads get coming up across multiple boards and yet again at pelican. I dont go there very much now because of the low 924 content, also because i've found the 951 rennlist forums more actively tune and develop their cars with custom or aftermarket bolton parts and are great to watch them progress (the power/ torque battles on the 951 board are intensifying, sometimes reading the threads i want to reach for popcorn!).
i still have a lot of respect for the oldtimers in the pelican 924/944/928 forums but time and time again its always the same sh!tstirrers stirring the same pot, it always the 911:everyone else debate and the last few times over the last 3 yrs it seems to include a fellow countryman
ive always considered myself a porsche guy. porsches always come first. i like them all, even the cayenne is slowly winning me over D: i grew up around a lot of different porsche models and luv them all. porsche as a company epitomise everything a sports car should be. strong race hertiage, great performance and great engineering. To me, the 924 meets most of that criteria and it shows- it won on its first outing in competition, a rally in australia in 1978 and no one can say the le mans 924cgt effort wasnt worthwhile.
they have strong sales and they continue to introduce young & old to the marque and to enthusiasts to forums like here, rennlist and even pelican.
I mean honestly, if they werent interested in the cars for anything more than status and/ or an expensive A- B car then they wouldnt bother coming to sites like this. they come to learn. wouldnt you be disappointed to start researching your beloved car and find internal squabbling like this?
So what if the 924 missed out on the powerstakes, it handles like a dream! I dont see the lotus elise guys bitching and they have toyota engines!
Theres now 5 porsches of different models in my family including race cars spanning 1978 - 1993 and i wouldnt trade them or my car for anything.
i find it discouraging when the porsche extended family have petty family feuds like this. i'd rather wave to the other guy in passing on the street or maybe swap and chat about each others cars before driving on- thats part of the porsche experience!! _________________ '86 944

I guess I would say, in reviewing the other (newer) thread, in OT, that this is a great example of why I've never been too much interested in racing with PCA Club Racing. Sure, there's plenty of nice guys, but there's still too many guys like this... and there's just no pleasure in beating them, it's too easy! I wanna go up against guys who give no quarter and won't whine when they lose. Hell, I can't even remember the last time I saw a protest filed, and when I win a race because the first finishing car comes in underweight - I apologize to him, because I wanted to beat him on the track. I've just seen and heard too much of this kind of attitude to want to be a part of it...
That's probably why rennlist and 924board.org will always be superior to places like Pelican... Well, somebody's gotta be #2! _________________ Vaughan Scott

I use my moms account on pelican. Those guys don't know there ass from a hole in the ground sometimes. When i was there they raged on me allot cause "your porsche ain't real." Well if porsche made it then it's a real porsche don't you think.
second place just means your a first place loser. HAHAHAHAHA.
But i want to meet allot of you guys. In two years or so we should have a 924 event. Like a 924 show(wouldn't be a car show if only one type of car is there.) Some races (Drag, Circle, ETC) I think it would be fun. _________________ What i own:

Well a few of us did catch up at this year's 944Fest (in Mansfield)... but somewhat more of a rennlist-biased crowd, and I was the only 2.0L. Furthermore the future of that event is somewhat in jeopardy...
What we've tended to do is have smaller, more local gatherings, usually piggybacking off of larger P-car groups, rather than anything big. Takes a lot of time, money, and effort to DIY, and most people dont have the time, money, and reliable cars to drive them cross-country... am I right? _________________ Vaughan Scott

There is already enough division in the world without people picking at other's pride and joys.
I consider myself to be a old Krusty Pelican and can say it has definately changed a lot in the past two years. It has almost gotten too big, too fast.
You guys are cool by me. _________________ 993 Coupe |

Wow, too funny, now the Pelicans are fighting with each other:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=119ed17c282bb337e121e1c4c19e887d&threadid=244570
They make some interesting points about not supporting Pelican Parts the business based on the lack of tact of their online members. I just recently bought a few hundred bucks worth of suspension bits off Pelican - small peanuts to be sure. I'm not sure I would stop buying from them based only on their bulletin board. I might think about it if the owners were involved in the negative discussion about other P-car owners. But, I'm not sure you should punish a hard working business owner because a few pimple faced geeks with 10,000 posts sit in their basement and make fun of 924 owners. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Well, they didn't just lock the thread, they DELETED the whole thing!
the 924 thread
I deleted the 924 thread. As most of you know I am not a fan of censorship, instead preferring to let the community self-police. But due to the threats of certain members, I found it best to circumvent any possible negative effects on the business end of Pelican. It is sad that some people take things so seriously, but such is the case. The terrorists have won.

I must have read that thread right before it went down. Needless to say, it was getting pretty heated. All between Pelican guys, nice to see none of the 924Board crowd involved. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

The Pelican OT section has a poll to vote on which Porsche is the biggest POS. Time to vote! _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Someone was taking the moderator to task for allowing Tabs (Will Muny) to come over here and start talking smack and causing problems. He threatened to post a link to the thread on every Porsche board to show how Pelican allows it's members to make personal attacks against other owners. There were some pretty nasty remarks made against not just the 924 but some of the guys on this board, too. That seemed a bit over the line, I thought, especially since some of the guys they were attacking were the ones that welcomed them here (Paul). I guess someone emailed the owners of Pelican and that may or may have put and end to it. I don't know but I do know that if it was my business, I sure wouldn't want someone like Tabs running loose and running down other owners who also buy from the website.
The moderator said he was going to post an apology over here but I guess he's been locked out. Just as well since he was in on the flaming.
Maybe the owners will try to clean out the dead wood over there and get back to business of Porsches. I doubt I would buy over there again though. Too many other choices out there that you don't have to put up with that kind of crap.
Like Paul said, get over and vote! _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |
