I came across a 1980 924 turbo S and i was wondering if it is really an S and if i should buy it? It has the 5 Lug rims, 150mph white on black gague panel and everything elts looks simelar to my 80 turbo. 4 wheel disk brakes and a larger rear lip.its red with black leather 5speed. Body is in good condition, No rust, and a little cracking in the paint on the hood. Interrior is complete but a little rough.

they are asking $1200 but im pretty sure I can get it for around $800 . here is my question. is it worth it? I payed $800 for my 931 but should i pay the same amount for one in a little worse condition that is an S??

What im trying to say is, Is the S really that much better than the standard 931 in proformance and/or collectrability?

If it's a genuine S, then go for it! Quite a rare car and the price is fair.

How do you know if you have a 931 S?? What years did they make them, etc.?

Paul has an '80 Turbo S. He (and many others) have posted regarding this many times.

As I understand it, the Turbo "S" was a Turbo with some nice options added, not least of which is the M471 option. Apparently, up until 1980 (possibly after?), the U.S. market 924 Turbo's were available with the disc/drum brake setup. To the best of my knowledge, all other overseas markets only got the Turbo with the discs-all-'round option, regardless of model year. Yes, it's worth paying a little extra for, IMHO. But I'd want some documentation proving it was a originally delivered as an "S" (which was a factory model, so it should be noted somewhere, maybe even encoded in the VIN?).

Not to say don't buy it if it's not an "S" (or you can't prove it is). It still sounds like a good thing. Just don't go all-out thinking your getting something you're not, y'know?
