I have been having a slight oil leak for a while, which has been getting worse and worse, to where now it has to be taken care of. It seems to be coming from the connections in my oil lines, how do I fix this, is there seals to replace on these lines? If so where can I get them, I have not been able to locate them anywhere?? Anyone else had this problem or care to comment? Thanks

If you mean the oil lines at the oil filter side, I replaced the seals with genuine parts, still have a slight leak when the car is hot. _________________ 1981 931 S2

ok i see, yes i am talking about the lines under the car that go from turbo to filter pan, and line that goes to cooler and back to filter the hoses are quite large. Where did you find the seals for these lines, i have not been able to find them. Yes nine will leak only when hot and stoped at a stop light, it must leak onto some part of the exhause because it makes small cloud of smoke, this does not look good. Anyone know where i can get new seals?

Probably not those lines; they're compression fittings anyway.
More likely you've got a leak of the breather tube up over the turbo, something like that, harder to get to. Mine actually snapped. I'm also suspicious of the condition of the oil feed line to the turbo, possible leaks there.
What year turbo do you have?
Might ultimately end up having to remove the turbo just to replace all the seals and such. I had to R+R my turbo a couple of times after buying the car, as the PO had replaced it but not tightened and sealed everything properly. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Sorry I should have said earlier it an 81 931. Aw really, well that’s not what I wanted to hear, ha-ha I have done this once already, pulled turbo to check everything, what a chore, but everything was in order, but in has been driven a few hundred miles now so who knows now? I am just going out now to drain the oil and pull the lines off and inspect. I am hoping it is just one of those lines, because I really am not looking forward to pulling turbo and all again, but I guess if I have to fix this problem because in is getting worse and worse, now it is leaking quite a bit. |

I still maintain that it is next to impossible to properly replace a turbo on a 931 while the motor is in the car.

there are "oil sealing rings" at each oil line connection with the banjo type fittings, theyre similiar to washers, in addition, depending on which oil line , there are also a couple of oring type seals as well. they are a special order item, but can be obtained.. i just ordered all of them via paragon, they told me theyre coming directly from germany..most of those seals are under $2 each, it just takes time to get them in.. _________________ Eric

Ok thanks a lot guys, I can not seem to find where this leak is coming from, it has to be something high to be dripping on the exhaust but I cant really tell, because the lines are under the exhause? I think I will just go ahead and replace all the seals on the lines anyway, just to be safe. But I am thinking that it is leaking out of the pipe that is bolted to the turbo. Paul, iirc I think it was you that added an fm intercooler to your 931 it looked good, so I decided to do the same, but my question is, what did you use to seal the pipe, where it bolts to the turbo? If this was not you anyone else know what would work to seal this? Also is it normal to have oil coming out up through this exchange tube or upper pressure duct as they call it in the manual

I have an 80 turbo so I don’t know if this will help. My car would leak only after it was driven a wile. It got a lot worse if I would kick the turbo in. Leaked all over the exhaust, but when it was not running the drips of oil didn’t indicate where the leak was.
Shortly after making a puddle in Don Hook’s driveway I decided it was time to find it. I finally found a dried out leaky O-Ring where the filter relocation assembly (or whatever it’s called) attaches to the block. Mine was actually split. The Porsche dealership carries this o-ring.
I replaced the Crush washers that attached to the assembly as well. I think they are a one-time use item.
Hope it helps, Jim _________________ 1980 931
