Well, being that i'm new and all, figured I would start a thread in here and update my progress periodically as I get everything sorted out.

I do have one question though, the PO didn't have the wheel lock key... I've read on here that drilling it out is an option... Forgive my stupidity, but are you drilling the lug or the key on the side of the lug?

And now for the pictures:

And last, my completed Megasquirt just waiting to be installed.

And updated today: 7/24/2007

Bad picture of the wheel lock:

That garage scene looks extremely similar to mine!

Pound an undersized socket on the locking lugs, remove with impact, hammer out and throw away the locking lugnut.

Worked like charm! Thanks man!

In case anyone else needs to know, a lock like mine took a 7/8" 12pt pounded on...

cranks em off good...

At least now I can get the wheels off.

So heres another question for you all...

On the turbo, does the downpipe from the turbo to the exhaust normally contain a weld on a coupler about 6 " past the turbo...

It looks flared on the turbo side with quite a large weld around the perimeter?

Just curious... I'm trying to decouple the exhaust, but i'm having difficulty getting at the bolts on the turbo...

ugh, very annoying.

Ahhh, well, i've gotten quite far now.. got the J pipe off... the only thing holding the engine in now are the 4 bolts to the torque tube... I had one of those brain fart moments... I couldn't get the top two bolts to move at all... I gave up for the night... took a shower, in the shower realized I was pulling the wrong way... derrrrr.... righty tighty, lefty loosey...

Anyway... thought I would post up a few pictures of the engine mounts... the passenger mount I had to cut the lower nut off... bet you can guess why?
I think everything is original to the car... this thing is going to purr when i'm done.

Woohoo! Engine is finally out...

Not bad for evening and weekends between everything else life throws at ya...

The help on the forum was great... few things extra needed to be done for the turbo, but all is good!

congrats on a successful power plant removal, i did a little dance when mine finally came clear, though i was even happier i didnt do any further damage during the process

seems like about half of us now have our motors out.. which means in the not so distant future, the amount of great running 931's on the road will double!

Interesting way to disconnect the header pipe!

I'm surprised to see the A/C compressor still hanging there. I usually unhook it with the hoses connected and hang it out of the way in the engine bay.

Have fun!

Couldn't easily get to the nuts on the turbo and didn't want to break them off... Pipe was welded to the downpipe, so I just cut it off.. i'm doing a t3/t4 conversion so i'll be ditching the turbo, manifold, and exhaust back...

Let me know if anyone needs any j-pipes, the stock wastegate, ect.

I already have a couple of people with dibs on the turbo and manifold.

I just need the manifold and turbo to make sure that I get my measurements of space ect for my father in law to weld up a new manifold for the new turbo.

The a/c compressor... yeah, a/c was completely discharged, I mean not an ounce of gas left in the system... so I just disconnected the pipes to pull everything at once... maybe not the fastest way, but it worked...

Now I gotta get into the back, pull the brake booster/master cylinder, clutch master, clutch slave, washer tank, ect. then clean, smooth and spray the bay.

I already have the Megasquirt put together... i'll start fabricating brakets for mounting my Ford Edis... gotta make a blockoff plate for the distributor, so much to do...

After all of that, I haven't decided if i'm going to move to the later tranny and carrier or not.... but I probably will... so the tranny and carrier might be up for sale soon w/ a possible trade for a late model tranny / carrier.

Whew... when I say it like that, it seems like a lot of work....

I've decided to make a street / rally car... so concourse quality won't be an option for me.

I almost might ditch the turbo hood in lue of a regular 924 hood if anyone wants to trade + cash.

Welp, heres an update...

I got my gt28 turbo Tuesday. Nice unit, very excited to get that together...

My father-in-law has the flanges necessary to weld up the exhaust manifold for me. It has an internal wastegate. The default boost on the actuator is set to 12 psi. I'm going for a boost controller so i've purchased a dual port set at 6psi.

I got off of the phone today with the machine shop. The guy seems to be a little confused as to the bore size for the short block. He measured the top at 3.4" or i guess the 86.5 bore. He said that it will need a bore and hone, "quite a ridge in the cylinders".

So I guess i'm going to have to buy new pistons... I'm thinking about the Mahle VW Flattops

-nick, are these still working ok?
