Just went to go look at the '74 914 down the street. I am very excited about this car right now. The engine has the original FI system, 95hp, and a farily new exhaust system. I didn't get to hear it run, because it has been garaged since April... he is going to replace the battery, oil the cylinders, and give me a call when he starts it up. Rebuilt engine has 500 miles on it.

Original mag rims with new tires.

The body is very straight, no dents... a slight amount of surface rust in the rear trunk, easily removed. Rocker panels are good, suspension mounts are good. The interior needs a LOT of love... needs to be cleaned, re-covered, re-assembled. And minor bits of trim need repair/replacement. The roof apparently does not leak, I was amazed. All the glass is intact, and the electrics all work.

It needs a new paintjob.

Everything is basically cosmetic. The integrity of the engine, chassis, body is amazing and could be a show car after a while.

What do you guys think? $3000 and he will take payments, too.

Yeah... that's what I figured you guys would say. I won't overlook before/after photos this time, either. Right now, it looks like a bomb went off inside the car. Radio is missing, junk floating about on the seats, driver side seat needs repair, etc, etc... and the paint is faded and near coming off in spots. Somehow, everything else managed to remain in great shape.

Its about a month worth of clean-up and a new paintjob away from being a very classy car. I am sure there are hidden odds and ends that will take longer, but wow.

What do you think the value will be if I completely restore it? I think I am into this one as a cruiser show car, Porsche Parade, and etc. I'll keep the 924 modded, down and dirty, as my daily driven "racecar".

Sounds like a steal, I'd take it to a Porsche mechanic, or at least one who know's 914s, he might be able to spot something you didn't.
