all you guys who are thinking about 'cooling your 931's might like to take a look at this:

http://www.autospeed.com/A_0901/page1.html

it's a comparison of Japanese intercoolers that you can pick up at your local junk yard.

The estimated prices are all in Aus dollars.

yeah, and there are a lot more Turbo RX7s in junk yards than 951s.

Given that Mazda photocopied our 924 when styling the first RX7 I think the idea of using an rx7 'cooler on a 931 is like poetic justice.

Yeah and that Autospeed site rocks. Does anyone have a subscription to this? Contemplating myself. If those free articles are any indication the full access should be worth it.

Also, Peter, you never replied to my question of Desktop Dyno 2000 being worth the money spent.

Peter,

I've just made one using a Mazda RX7 unit looks pretty good and we will be fitting it to the car this weekend and running some tests on it and comparing it to the Genuine GT one I run on my own car.
Cost is quite reasonable less than US$500 and it fits the original 931 mounting points and hose connections.

Rick,

sorry about that.

I have membership at Autospeed. I think it represents very good value for money. They put new articles on the site every week and they have just posted their 1000th so these guys work hard for your sub.

They are a little too Jap oriented but that's what's popular on the Australian performance scene at the moment. Most of the tech. stuff is like the intercooler comparison and applies to anything.

As for the Dyno 2000 software, I love it. It only took an hour or so to model a N/A 924 and then you can start throwing turbos, superchargers, big throttle bodies, headers etc, etc and see what happens.

One really nice thing is that you can give it a range of values for compression and cam timing and get it to try all combinations to work out which gives you the most power. You can then take a cam and the specs to a shop and get it ground just the way you want it.

Everything is presented as pretty graphs or numbers making it easy to compare different mods.

I really recommend it. If you are going modify any engine this thing can save you money or at least give you an idea of what you will end up with.

Only thing I can't get it to is to get 200hp from a N/A 924 but it is fun trying.

Rick,

I got the software directly from the company at the address I posted.

I think it was US$46 for the Dyno2000 and their disk of cam profiles.

You might have gathered that I think it's very good value for the money.

Autospeed did a review of it recently, look at

http://www.autospeed.com/A_0270/page1.html

The numbers it comes up with seem very realistic to me.

Peter.

Just checked the unit out today - needs a couple of holes tapped and it's ready to go. I'll take some photo's and post them for you guys to see. Certainly easier than the 951 method, while the location is the best, for road use it cuts lag down and gives pretty good performance improvement over the non intercooled turbo.
