Hey folks,
I'm finally starting to get somewhere on this thing. The paint work was holding me up for a long time. Reassembly is coming soon...

| Really nice work -nick , doing the whole car all at once is a big job . maybe when you get some time you can add a little info on how you kept everything organized, sorted, and on plan. did you have a game plan, or order of attack ? how long did it take , I mean the actual work . looking back ,would you do anything differently ? |

I can't wait to see it put together either!
As for keeping track of everything- ziplocks, marker, post-it notes, and lots of pics. I'm familiar enough with most of the parts that I don't need too much more than that. Tricky items are when you've got different sized bolts attaching a component- I just take a pic of them in order noting one bolt in relation to something on the component. Then I get them back in correctly. With everything in bags, it's pretty easy to keep track of.
Thanks for encouragement!

looks great, what paint products did you use, and about how much did all of them cost? I'm repainting my 924 soon and i'm just trying to get an idea of how much it'll run me. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 "S"

Nick - Great site! I think that a lot of us could use the thoroughness that you've put forth. I often thought about what it takes to take the car apart and to put it back together again. You've put things in good order for the enthusiast to tackle. Thanks for sharing the info! _________________ denis d.

Hey '82-
I didn't really use anything fancy for the paint- all "off" brands recommended by the paint shop guys. They specifically suggested I not use a fancy basecoat since it just gets covered up by the clear anyway. I think the basecoat ran ~$60 for 2 quarts, then another $30 or so for the reducer to mix it with. The clear was a mid-grade and cost around $100 for the gallon, plus ? for the activator. Then the primer/surfacer was another $80 or so. All told, it totaled around $400 with paper, tak cloth, air filter mask, etc. Plus ~180 for the paint gun, another $250 for the air compressor and parts... Honestly, I never want to paint anything ever again! It's been brutal!

Nick,
It looks great. Now I feel like a cheapskate by just having the outside of mine painted. BTW the color looks like my "silber" 928 which needs painted. hint, hint.

Unless you have done this you will never know how much work it takes.
Great job.
One the one hand I envy you and on the other hand I don't want to do it again myself.
I too went through the clearcoat with the 1200 in order to get a real slick shine.
Great work. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

I was hoping to surprise Francis with the finished product so he wouldn't be too upset I ripped the great interior he had in it... I'm glad you like it!
I already decided that I will never paint a car again. Now I know why shops charge so much- I've easily spent $6000 worth of my time on it, and it still isn't done!
thanks folks
