My pop up headlights have started acting strange. When you turn them on they open to the full height and then immediately drop back down about 1/2 inch so the beam is aimed only about 4 foot in front of the car. Any ideas what could be causing this? _________________ My 80 924 loves me. |

This happened to me when I got my car.
There was a wiring problem. A couple of new ground wires and it worked again. |

In tandem with Lizards' suggestion or perhaps a little before trying to move the arm coming off the motor, check to make sure the mounting brackets for the headlight motor haven't loosened. When I re-assembled my car I thought all I had to be concerned with was aligning the headlight covers with the body panels. When I turned on the headlights I discovered the same problem you describe. The lights popped up O.K. but the light beams pointed almost straight into the pavement.
Check to make sure the rubber cap on the stop screw under the headlight housing is making contact with the car body. In my case they were not. The fix was moving the two mounting brackets (there's about a half inch of adjustment) a little further towards the front of the car and then adjusting the arm coming off the headlight motor.
Note that I had completely removed the entire assembly too get the car painted. In your case, unless you've recently messed around with the assembly I would suspect the mounting brackets having loosened before the control arm having moved on the shaft. _________________ Doodle
