Me: Just going to pop the hood so I can get some nice pics...be right in.

Wife looking in the car: interior on this one is nice... oh and the release is different that your other car.

Me: yes it is nice... and yea the release is different....mummmble.... stupif release (applies lots of pressure)

Wife: shouldn't it just pop loose, better be careful you dont want to hurt your wrist...

Me: (distracted and irritated) you worry to much and yes it should pop loose, dam it... (getting mad) get out walk around slam hands on hood trying to get it to budge.

Wife: maybe its stuck (brilliant observation)

Me: you think?!!?! (irritate at car and wife for point out the obvious)

Wife: Don't get mad at me its you car, and you dont need so many cars, I told you blah blah blah (I stopped listening)

Me: (realizing, wife is not exactly happy with a driveway full of porsches) I am sorry honey, just upset... If I could just get this stupid thing....(pulling hard on release) "Tuwang" release comes up... Damn it!!!! (realizing the hood cable just came loose) son of a ()#*&$)@#$...

Wife: (walking into garage) I told you to be careful......

Me: (steamed up) &#)$*&#)#*$)#@$*#@)$*#@)$*@#$)@ (Hit stearing wheel with palm of hand, pain preceeds to remind me that My wrist, arm and shoulder are not healed) @#!)(#&#@!)&$ (more cusing, close door, grab car cover throw it over car and slam garage door closed.)

Which knocks stuff loose and I get hit in the head by rolls of christmass wrapping paper.... errrrrr.... spin around and walk into table... ouch!!! limp into house... cause now my hip hurst for a few seconds... Wash up, still irritated...

Son asks me if I will play hotwheels with him. Sure (smiling) spend time playing with him till dinner.

haha, done that!

See if you can grab the broken part of the cable with some vise-grips.

My wife isn't allowed to make brilliant observations any longer in my shop, when I am struggling with someone unless she's getting her hands dirty and helping.
My side never complain about dinner even if I hate bell peppers. Which she loves and cooks with often.
I agree grab as much as possble with a pair of vise grips.

WOW! How often does this happen? You guys got some kinda' hostage taker thing goin'?

Try enlisting the aid of your lovely assistant (wife) and see if it helps to have her push down on the hood while your pulling on the remainder of the cable. Might help to show her on one of the other cars just what the latch looks like and how it functions.

Yea might, but problem is the cable snapped under the hood... So looks like I have to put the car on stands and get under.... and then try and get it loose....

When I used to go junkyard hopping I had this same problem with many of the 924s there. What I did was lay under the front of the car and reach up to right next to he latch and yank on the cable. Of course these cars were already lifted so you will have to do that first. It is really easy on an N/A but near impossible on a turbo. Good Luck!

Never had to do it, but on a 931 I'd try removing one or more of the 4 small plastic vents on the nose and go in with a long screwdriver or tire iron. With some luck you might be able to find and push the latch to the right.

Well the hood release cable on my car burnt and broke so I got under the dash, layed down, feet up on the seat, dug around behind the rug and found the intact part. I got a good grip with leather gloves on, and pulled. It took a little effort but I got it open. I have had to do this many times since because we haven't gotten around to replacing it One of these days I'm going to be wearing a mini skirt or something and have to pop the hood - I'm sure that will set the fire under my butt to fix it.

Yea Liz, that just might, I am putting it on the back burner for now< I think jacking it up and getting under the car will have to do... but Have to make time for that. Unless someone comes up with a better way.

The cable is clearly broken under the hood, so pulling it from inside the car is out.
