Okay, got eveything figured out with the bottom end this weekend. Now i am dealing with some timing/carburetion issues.

The car runs lean, even when I richen the idle screws. This is evidenced in spitting through the carbs and a "popping" exhaust. I replaced the intake gasket, and no change in engine RPM when I spray starter fluid arounf the manifold. This HAS to be a vacuum leak or mixture problem. Advancing the timing helps alot, but I get about 30 deg of advance before it disappears completely, then everything is just too hot.

So I am in the final stages of troubleshooting. If I can figure out this carb. thing, she'll be on the road in no time.

What carbs are you using, what size are the idle and air correction jets?

The Idles are 55f9 ... I just ordered some 185 ac jets for the main jets to replace the 210s on there now. The ACs on the mains shouldn't affect idle mixture though, should it?

I have tried richening the mixture also, and it just doesn't go away. Acts like a vacuum leak, but I can't track it down. 15-20 degrees of advance makes it drivable... on the highway at least. Around town is very difficult, the engine wants to rev up too fast.

Even with these problems, lots of power. It wants to shift so soon, I barely make it half a block before it wants to wind out 3rd gear. I am not stomping the pedal either. Cool for a race car, bad for 25 MPH speed zones with lots of stops.
