My clutch pedal goes to the floor and stays there. I just finished putting the trans into my '82 931 myself and wanted to try it out. (I've never driven this car!) Put in the key, step on the clutch and it goes to the floor. The fluid level in the reservoir had fallen below the pick-up line level. I checked under the car and saw that the clutch slave was wet with DOT 3. Anyone have any ideas? Bad slave or master?

You'll have to get under and have a look at the cylinder to see if it's leaking at the seal or the connection or the pipe.

Thanks for the reply Ian. I figured that's what I'd have to do when I saw that the slave was wet with brake fluid. I was concerned that it could be something else because the trouble-shooting section of the Haynes manual notes some other problems like broken or frozen t/o shafts. I don't think it's that. I'll pull the starter today.

Just had exactly the same problem on my 931, slave cylinder seal had failed, although i'm glad that it did the clutch hydraulics were full of black mess as well. So it needed a good flush out, new seal kit honeing etc. Feels much better now. Pain in the arse though had to take the starter motor out!

Greg,
That's exactly what happened here. I pulled the starter and I could more clearly see the DOT 3 oozing out. I pulled the slave of and the fluid was coming out around the rod. I refilled the fluid reservoir and just let the fluid run until it was clear. I just ordered a new slave from Doc&Cy's. Thanks for the input. Any ideas on a cheaper source of the black rubber seal between the throttle body and the intake off of the turbo.

I replaced the clutch slave. Ordered it Zims. I finally got to drive the 931. I can feel its' potential but it bucks and hesitates and backfires. I've replaced the ancient plugs and cap and rotor. I still have to replace the ignition wires and fuel filter. Thanks for the input fellas.
