Please help! I have removed alternator and had it tested , it is fine . Tested from battery terminal to alternator it makes circut. Why does my voltmeter read 10.5 volts at battery terminal. What is in between the alternator and battery terminal is there some other voltage regulator ? Battery goes flat every 3 or 4 days . Just removed heaps of useless wiring loom(4+ meters)from alarm system . Slightly better .

Maybe your battery is the problem...Perhaps the battery is having problems holding a charge...

You bench tested the alternator correct?
You did test the battery when the car is running and got 10.5 V?
Have you checked the alternator belt? This is a big issue that I have
brought up a few times. I am not sure if it is your issue but it is easy
to check for. Do this make sure the belt tension is correct. Then place
one or two fingers on the alternator fan (car off!) The aluminum fan
that is mounted on the alterntor. Push on the fan. Down is easiest.
If the alternator can be spun with out the rest of the engine moving then
you have a belt problem. (You are very strong if you end up turning the motor over.)

Anyway if the belt slips and you have it as tight as you can go you need
to find a belt that is approximately the same diameter, but has a wider
v-notch section that engages the pulley. I once knew what this belt # was
and will again soon. I have been told that others have used the belt for
the turbo cars with success. That is a good starting point.

Also check the alternator bushings while you are down there.

If this is not the issue..... sorry don't know what to tell you.

Good luck

Eric

Did you check the battery voltage with the car running. It should be about 14.5 volts. If you only have 10.5 volts across the battery terminal with the car running, you need to check the voltage at the alternator, once again with the car running. Check from the output terminal of the alternator to the alternator case. If it is still 10.5 volts, your alternator is bad. It would not be the first time that a parts house indicated that an alternator was good when it wasn't. If you have good voltage at the alternator (14 to 15 volts) but not at the battery, with the car running, then you have a wiring problem, usually a bad ground or bad cable. If you have good voltage across the battery with the car running, but low voltage when you turn it off, you have a bad battery. A battery with one cell shorted will measure in the area of 10 volts when the car is not running. Hope this helps. Dave Russell.
