Ok, I got a lot of responses on my spelling, but I never got an answer through all of those posts. I have a friend who has a 1978 924 & want to convert it to a 5 lug bolt pattern. What exact components does he need to do this? I have a late 1985 944 that I was going to use to donate him the parts. I figure he will need the spindles, hubs & rotors for sure. What else is necessary? control arms? master cylinder? parking brake assembeleys? etc etc.....thanks again everyone...

The late-offset conversion is much harder, if completely possible - the car was engineered to take the early offset stuff. At very least he will need all control arms brake components etc...

'85.5 isn't late offset. Late offset started in '87.

Calipers: Same from '84-'88, front and rear
Discs: Same from '79-'86, front and rear
Master Cylinder: Same from '83-'86 944, all 924S, but different than the 924 master cylinder. You can use the '80 or '81 master cylinders on the 924 and not bend or change any brake lines.

You will need to use 924 with 5-lug, early 944 (up to early 85) or 924S front spindles. The '85.5-up cars don't have a hole for the speedometer cable in the left spindle. The right '85.5 and '86 spindles are the same as the early cars.

The '85.5-up cars use a different hub, stub axle, and trailing arm. I don't believe that the components are interchangeable, so the whole trailing arm with axle and hub will have to be swapped over. This may require different half-shafts, but I'm not positive.

If anyone has any more information, please pass it on so we can add it to the FAQ.

Hope this helps,

Jon Furst

The 85.5 cars also have alloy lower arms in front and the mounting is different on the rear bushing. I don't know if the alloy arms can be used on the pre 85.5 cars.
