There is an assembly on the bottom passenger side of the engine that somewhat resembles a shock, it's right behind the alternator. Is that really important? I got a car that doesn't have one and it's going to be on the road soon and I would like to know if I actually need that part or not. This is on a '78 924 NA.

i have a 78 that i rebuilt and i never installed the shock. the turbo's didn't even have them. i beleive all it does is reduce vibration and i'm sure you can live without it, especially considering how expensive they are from the dealer.

Absolutely correct... John Brown went and got a new one, installed it, couldn't notice the difference... and yes, it was quite expensive. It's documented in the Tech Section.
