I've got an 924 from 79 N/A
I wonder if there is any 16V header thats fits my block? If so, which mods have to be done on oil and cooling canals?

the 8 valves is good enough for this car....16 valves isn't gonna do a lot, the 944 with 16 valves is not much improvement over the 8 valve head, the thing is, that with three or four valves, there is more restricion in each outlet, where as with teh 2 valve if you get a port and polish its really good with a carb at WOT since its smooth and free-er, less surface area for the air to rush through, similar to dual exhaust rather than single, on some cars single exhaust is more flowing.

a bit of research after I posed the question about VW engine bits showed that the VW Golf/Rabbit/Sorocco guys agree with Lars.

For performance applications the single cam / 8 valve head was easier to modify and flowed better than the twin cam / 16 valve head.

Still, a twin cam head would be very cool.

Anders,

if we knew the answer to that question we'd know a lot more about the meaning of life, the universe and everything.

Forget about finding a 2c/16v head that will magically fit the 924 block with all oilways and stud holes and everything matching. It's not going to happen. If you want to put the snow-shoes on, put your bare block under your arm and go and confuse the local dismantlers here are a few things you can cross off everyone's list:

VW Golf/Sorroco/Jetta

Audi 4 cyls

Porsche 951 (OK that's being unkind, we know that won't fit)

Lexus V8 (just one head not both)

Lots of Toyota 4 cyls. Actually if you found how to fit the 20 valve 4 cyl 4AGE head to a 924 I'm sure the guys at 924.org could organise a medal and bottle of your favourite anti-freeze to be couriered to you.

Lots of Nissan 4 cyls.

Honda 4 cyls.

Mazda 4 cyls.

Daihatsu 4 cyls.

Kia 4 cyls.

Ford 4 cyls.

GM 4 cyls. ( I suppose they have some)

Lotus, Peugeot, BMW, Jaguar (1/2 the V, Volvo, SAAB, Opel, Alfa Romeo, Renault, Ferrari, Fiat, (did Lamborghini ever do a quad-cam V8?), Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, MG (the MGF is twin cam isn't it).

Did I miss any possibilities? Probably. Anyway, you know what your mission is for this weekend don't you?

Enjoy, and let us know how you get on.

Peter in Sydney AU.

I'm not really trying to bust your balls, honest. How could I, with a middle name of Nils (just don't tell Lars, he might think we're related). We're all lookin for the silver bullet that turns a 924 into a GT3-beater - first one to find it wins.

There was someone in Germany that until 1985 made a 16v head for the 924... I never found out any more information than that though... :-(

I think the 8v is just fine. It seems that the only way to really get 16v to work good is if you have some extreme mods to the car that require it to push out more....

8v VW's do better at autocross than 16v VW's normally :-)
