My 924 shakes badly from 60 to 75 mph. I took it in to get the tires balanced and found
one rim was bent and 2 of the tires (Bridgestone Turanza) are out of round. Probably from
sitting too long. Anyway now I am buying a rim and 2 new tires. What should I buy? I read
some where that 924's have a tendency to shake and tire choice and blancing are critical.

Anyone know about this

Rick

I have the same symptoms though I have noticed that the tyre pressure is also a factor. I have 195/60 x 15 .The vibration starts at around 110Km (65mph) and fades away from 125kmh(75mph). If I have a lower tyre pressure <30lbs the vibration is less noticeable . At 32lbs the vibration is very noticeable and the handling becomes somewhat twitchy as the tyres heat up and get harder. I have just installed new rack ends and tie rods (could only get porsche parts @ $205 Aus / $100 US per side )and a new well centered alignment. When I sit on 145 kmh the ride is smooth . I am sure the vibration is coming either from rear bearings (though there is minimal movement)or cv as the vibration doesnt feel as though it is in the steering gear . Any suggestions?

I had the same problem for over 2 years on mine. Had it aligned and balanced twice in that time and the only difference was where the shakes started.

Had a friend who owns a tyre shop put a new set of rubber on about 4 months ago. As we headed to the pub for a few cooling ales while the job was being done, he told his head tech. to "balance it within an inch of it's life and do a 'thrust' alignment" on it. It now tracks true and vibration-free to 180km/h (probably more it's just that I need to keep my licence).

I now think that the problem is that the tyre/suspension shops do a balance and alignment that will be OK up to 110km/h (say 65mph) because it's easy and being a law-abiding citizen you're never going to go faster that that, right.

Find a new best friend in a tyre or suspension shop, go fishing with him and get him drunk regularly and then get him to do a real balance and alignment for you.

Worked for me.

Thanks for the info. It makes sense after I saw the
kid who was balancing the tires. He must have been
all of 16 years old.

What kind of tires did you install?

just some cheap 195/14s to get me through the registration inspection.

There wasn't any point putting good tyres on as a 5-stud upgrade and a set of 15/16" Fuchs is on the list.
