Has anyone updated the shifter assembly on a snailshell?
I have mine out to rebuild the tranny and the 2 rod system has to go.
I'm wondering if a could use a new style shift lever and fabricate a new single rod. |

I updated the ball end on my '79 924 using a standard HEIM joint. I got mine at a local recumbant bike store, but they are used for all sorts of linkages. The pictues are crap, they were taken with a very old digital camera and are very low quality (I've had 2 new digicams since these pics were taken)
Check it out here:

Alex you used it on the guide rod didnt you..I have a replacement part
fpr the guide rodend that goes on the torque tube part #477711176A
For the shifter rod you replace the bushings with these only from They are part # 911 424 223 03. They are also used on the 914, and can be purchased from more common sources like Performance Products as such (914 shift linkage bushings). In this case, the cross pin holding the joint together (it's designed like a u-joint) must be driven out to one side. Then the joint is separated. A 13mm bolt is removed and the aluminum joint casting can then be removed from the car. The plastic bushings can be replaced by hand at this point. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
