Hi all,
My wastegate was cactus and I once again removed it and the required exhaust system. From my testing I have found a rather substansial oil leak coming from somewhere behind the block and with the wastegate out I can actually see stuff back there.... however I can't find where the leak is coming from (it only leaks when it's running)... so is it possible to run a 81 931 without any part of the exhaust system connected.. meaning nothing from the rear of the Turbo and nothing from the manifold outlet. eg no wastegate..
Regards
Wayne

Yeah. It will just be loud. If yours leaks where mine does, you will find that it is the rear main seal.

I ve been told by several people that if you put a few ounces of gas in your oil the gas will make the rubber in the rear seal swell and stop the leak for a month or so but ive never done it so i dont know if it works

DO NOT put gas in your oil to fix that leak. gasoline is a petroleum product, the gasket is in part a latex product. petroleum reacts badly with latex causing the latex to swell which may actually cause the leak to lesen for a short while, but the eventual result is the death of that seal completely. Ever left a rubber gasket in a solvent tank for a while? it swells a bit and eventually turns to mush and falls apart. if you add gas to your oil, you run the risk of melting your main seal(and who knows what other gaskets!) out of your engine and having the oil dump out. that's bad news. that gas in the oil trick is similar to adding sawdust to oil to quiet an engine knock just long enough to sell a car to an unsuspecting buyer-- a very crooked maneuver. just replace the seal.
