Hi! I am 16 and recently recieved a 1987 924S as a gift. It has 95000 miles and is an automatic. I know nothing about cars, and had one question. When I brake, I hear a high pitched squeaking noise. Is there any way to repair this god awful sound? What could it be? _________________ 1984 911 Carrera

Mine has allways squeeked a bit. Since mine is and 81 I have always blamed it on the VAG parts. I have never been able to get it to go away.
The other possibilites are that the barkes are worn out. Some cars have a wear tab which is a small metal tab that comes into contact with the rotor and is designed to make an awfull noise. I am not sure if your car has these wear tabs. The other possibility is that the brakes are worn. Worn brakes usually make a grinding noise though.
Pull the tires off and inspect the brake pads for wear. _________________ 1981 924 NA

It's not unusual for disk brakes to squeal. If the pads aren't worn down and you don't have warning tabs making the noise, then it's likely caused by the metal back surface of the pad/s rubbing against the calipers' piston. You can get a high frequency rubbing at that metal to metal contact that makes a squealing sound. Some brake pads come with a fiber pad backing to prevent it. Other fixes are anti-squeal liners - self-adhesive sheets of a tough plastic that you attach to the backs of the pads; or a silicone caulk-like product that you apply to the backs of the pads. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. If the squeal is loud, you probably have a pad that is worn down to metal. You need to get the car to a mechanic and have it checked before you do more damage. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |

congrats on the new car, now I have to recommend going to mechanics class to learn some things or you are going to spend alot of money on mechanics to do the jobs, as for the brakes you need to replace the pads, flush the system, and when you put the new pads in you need to get a type of goop from a local auto store to stop brake squeel it is applied on the back of the pad (part where steel touches steel) _________________ 3 928s, |

wurth has a spray that is red colored and teflon that you can apply to the back of the cleaned used pads or new pads to help eliminate brake squeal.
three coats and som edrying time and thier ready to insert.
On Porsche pads there is no brake warning tab so you have to be careful that the pads don't wear to the metal and ruin your discs. _________________ Bob Dodd - 924turbo@cox.net
