From: Nick Email: bethanick@earthlink.net Date: 15 Mar 2000 Time: 22:26:06up until now i have been driving big engined For cars. (Mustangs & Thunderbirds). However I am having to commute 60 miles a day to work. I am use to traveling in some sense of style so look down my nose a little at the common commuter car. I like 924's but don't know anything about them. So, what kind of mileage do'se a well tuned 4 cylinder 924 get? Are parts still available? How often are they needing to be worked on? Are they fun to drive? Handling? Acceleration? I am 6'4". Do they have some headroom? Are they getting to any kind of collector status? Do people get upset if you ad race parts and such to a nice stock car. (They do when you customize an Mustang).
Thanks for any info! Nick.

From: Michael J. Brown Email: 924martinirossi@email.msn.com Date: 15 Mar 2000 Time: 23:30:39Read preivous posting at the 924 Garage about the 924. They are excellent cars, look very classy even by todays standards, and, get good gas milage. Being a former Mustang owner (sold my first car I ever bought last year with over 246,000 miles on it, I'm 42). I missed my Mustang (for awhile). I currently own two 924's and one 931 and do have to say I'll never go back. I beleive with the help of this List and the RennList a properly maintained 924 will give many year of great and fun driving.
Vaughn Scott and John Brown (at 924 Garage) have helped me on my cars alot. Ask any questions to us. You won't find a nicer bunch of guys to help you on your way.
Michael

From: Kevin Fraser Email: frazzled@mypad.com Date: 16 Mar 2000 Time: 00:07:39Hey Nick,
I'm 6'4" - 240lbs (and I like candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach...oops that's for another webboard) and while its not the roomiest, lap of luxury car, I don't feel cramped in the 924 at all. In fact, I don't even have the seat all the way back. Seats are still quite commfy. My daily driver is a Civic, my wife drives a Neon and we also have a Dodge Caravan. 924 has more headroom than those three. Guess they grow 'em big in the fatherland.

From: Rick MacLaren Email: rmaclaren@iprimus.ca Date: 16 Mar 2000 Time: 11:52:47I am 6'4" tall, 220 lbs. Legroom is fine as is headroom. My brother, 6'6" tall and 260, hates driving the 924 and sitting at that angle...probably cause when he is at that angle at home he has a pizza on his lap and the TV is on. Ha ha ha.
Anyhow, modify the car all you like. I have heard people say the value of the car is diminished with mods. False. I put a 944 rear spoiler on my 924, have electric mirrors and soon to have electric windows which were not standard on this particular breed of 924. I've modified the head, put on an Audi throttle body, 944 exhaust, Momo Prototipo steering wheel, TSR rims, painted it and restored it and my insurance appraiser put the value between $10K and $15K. I bought the car for $1K.
The story is different with cheesy mods. Ground effects? Deplete the value. Tinted windows? Deplete the value. Racing stripes stickers? Deplete the value. Bondo? Ha ha. Chain around your licence plate? Don't talk to me. Chevy engine? I wouldn't do it as that too will probably deplete the value (not of course when compared with a blown engine...but given two equally maintained engines, the stock one wins). Engine mods that make the engine fast but weak? Depleted value. Engine mods that make the engine stronger? Up the value. Cheesy wheels? Deplete the value. Wheels that match? Up the value.

From: bob Email: bcdodd@rapfire.net Date: 16 Mar 2000 Time: 20:50:10I wonder if you can order the welded chain steering wheel to fit a 924, I always thought that was cool.
It would add to much weight, so I better not.

From: Nick Email: bethanick@earthlink.net Date: 16 Mar 2000 Time: 21:10:15Hey, thanks for the feedback everybody! You all sound like you have lots of fun with your cars! As for the chain steering wheel, I'll pass! Though I do have a lincoln 430 V8 in my 59 bird. Maybe swap that baby into a 924. I might have to modify the engine compartment a bit!
Thanks again all!
Nick

From: Lee Zook Email: zooklm@digital.net Date: 17 Mar 2000 Time: 05:12:32I have an 88 924S SE (which has the 944NA engine). I would estimate that on average I get 25 miles per gallon overall. Keep in mind that I love to run it out (5000-6000 rpm) through the gears. I have had it since july last year and love the car. Published HP estimates rate the 931's (924 turbo's) as a little less than the 88 924S. You might also consider the 944 turbo (if you just have to have the power rush) which makes around 210 HP peak. I have heard that the post 85 944's will not accomidate a large/tall person as well the 924's though.
