I've noticed through previous postings that some 924's came with an 85 mph speedo and some with another model (I'm assuming this other model is the 170 mph one that my 79 came with). Anyone know a reason for this, was it a dealer installed option perhaps?

The pre 80 924's had the 150 speedo

The non turbo 80's 924s had 85 speedos

The Turbo's have 150 speedo's (or maybe they have 160 speedos-- I forget

I haven't seen any thing higher than 85 in a turbo car unless the speedo was changed out. And 931's go faster than the high speed quoted by the factory. I had mine timed at over 140.

My Martini Rossi speedo is marked 150mph (white numbers)tops and my 80 931 turbo is 170 tops (yellow numbers). The rest of the guages on the turbo are in green, anybody got a green numbered speedo?

Looks like the speedo was changed at sometime on my 80 for an 82 944 speedo.

From about 1979 the new 170 mph speedo was added to the S market. This is also when the numbering changed from white to green. In 1981 Porsche went back to the easy to read white lettering.

Actually, there was still some variation pre-80's 924NA... one of my cars had a 150 (I think the '79), and the other (I think it was the '77.5) had a 160 speedo.
