|
|
My spring project is to install a freshly rebuilt G31 transaxle into my 931.
I was looking at the transaxle mounts on my car and found that they've been filled in with polyurethane. I'm wondering if this was some sort of repair or an enhancement of some kind. And more importantly...how do I know if I need new mounts? These don't look pretty either.
Local dealer quoted me this price awhile back for new mounts:
PART # 477-399-153-K
PRICE - $168.95 EA x 2
LOCATION – Germany only
EXPEDITING FEE - $21.12 EA x 2
Rebuilt euro G31

Doesn't lookbad, i PU filled my gearbox and engine mounts for increased rigidity, not something everyone wants though. Why not try and run them and see how the feel? _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Good point.
Is is possible to replace the mounts without dropping the transaxle again? _________________ 1981 Porsche 931 w/S1 engine & euro g31 transaxle. Water-cooled intercooler |

Yeah its easy, support the box with a jack and remove them _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Fair enough.
Sometimes with this car there are surprises. For example, changing the transaxle oil.
The instructions seem straightforward, until you realize the mounting arm isn't pictured and blocks the fill plug! The guys that wrote the manual probably had a good laugh about it.
Check out the second picture. Apparently the transaxle is levitating.
Here's the real situation
Doh! Not easy to get a socket in there!
Of course I'm swapping out the transaxle now, so not a big deal.
But planning for later, I went ahead and installed a 17mm hex head plug instead of the Allen head.

Hehe, yeah. I pushed the hex part out or a socket like yours, then i could use a normal spanner to loosen the plug. Its quite na annoying design, especially if you have a rusted plug etc and need to put some force on it. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo
