Reading all this...makes me frown and then laugh to be honest.
What kind of race are you targeting anyway?

Regardless of the type of race though, even if you went turbo and would have pumped the 924 up to say 400hp, you'd still loose to that 340i simply because thats a MUCH better and faster car.
Its not just what max power you make, its also about the torque and power curve, throttle response, its about gearing, grip, suspension, aerodynamics..and brakes obviously...and more...

I'm not sure what your goal is...to beat some modern performance car with a fraction of a cost..at like one thing in particular? Thats nearly impossible and worthless...whats the point of that?
What are you trying to prove and to who? Just enjoy driving that 924 for what it is ffs.
The reason why you're not satisfied is because you aimed way too high while willing to invest way too little.
You want a chance to actually beat that 340i in your 924? Wisely spend 30-40k putting go-fast goodies on your 924 and you will...but that wont be a 924 anymore.
You did a home made EFI and supercharger conversion on a tight budget on a 50 years old engine design and expect to beat a car like this? What are you, 6?
Do you even know how does your torque and power curve look like? Have you even been on a dyno to tune your EFI system?
If the answer to these last two questions is no, then a 316 bmw might walk you.

Performance is made with solid knowledge and money!

Quote:
The BMW 340i is a sports sedan featuring a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine producing 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
It also includes a 48-volt mild hybrid system for enhanced performance and fuel efficiency. The M340i xDrive, in particular, is equipped with an M Sport suspension, variable sport steering, an M Sport steering wheel, an M Sport differential, and M Sport brakes.

FFS this BMW will give a brand new 911 a run for its money!

Yeah it’s just pay-to-win at the end of the day.

No real solution except win the lottery.

I don’t think I even spent 1k on this SC build tbh, makes the rat rod look like a show car aesthetically too.

I had better just stop whining and make a bigger pulley, what’s done is done and I’m stuck with it now.

Well, realistic expectations are needed too.

The capabilities of modern cars are just too much to be trying to "beat" them with our old cars, no matter how much you spend. Even Singer money.

HOWEVER - you can focus on what makes these cars good, highlight and optimize that, and then you'll be ahead and have a car you can truly enjoy, in a way the big heavy modern stuff can't replicate, for a reasonable budget.

I drive those ultra-fast modern high-performance cars - all the Corvettes including yes, the ZR1s, the Singers, etc, on the test track, on a daily basis. I know the reality of what they can achieve, and know my lowly little 931 will never be on the same page... so there's no point trying (even though, at one point, I was building a GTR for the street).

So instead, modernize, get the stone dead reliability, get everything working properly, clean up the cosmetics and restore, and you'll have a car that still turns heads while being enjoyable and engaging - even if your average minivan, SUV or sedan can easily beat it off the line at a traffic light. Automatic transmissions are much better for that anyway, but they cease to be fun after 60'...

Vaughan, truer words have never been spoken.
Long may our lovely little, curvy and light Toofahs reign over the backroads and twisties. Think Tail of the Dragon.

Sold the parts off to fund the prototype build before it really got started, bailed on the project.

To be fair the prototype is pretty cool.

If I had more money I’d probably not be messing around with a 924 but it’s cheaper to make this car faster than to buy a fast car (which is weird, before COVID this was definitely not the case but the price of everything desirable has gone insane now).
