Hello
I am new to the Porsche world.
Long story short, i picked up a really clean 87 924s that had been sitting for close to 20 years in good climate. Really clean, no rust, no major body damage (needs a good buffing/cleaning).
I have always wanted a Porsche and thought i could get in cheap well thats not the case.
Got the car, took it to my shop. did the timing belts, calipers front and rear, brakes all the way around, filters, oil change, starter, water pump and thermostat, battery, new tires, hood struts, rear lid struts (not the supper stiff ones), classic WA plates with '87 tags, period correct head unit with blue tooth, trim parts.
turned the engine over by hand, ran the engine with the coil wire pulled to get some oil moving all seemed good.
started the car it ran for a little bit then it stopped.
So heres where I am at...
pretty nasty scaring on the #1
looking around locally everyone says 10k to rebuild either sleave or re machine.
I did find this palce
https://lnengineering.com/shop-by-model/porsche-924-928-944-968.html
they seem more reasonable but theres shipping and everything else involved. any one use them?
I would love to fix the the thing and drive it this summer, but I got way to many other small projects that just nickle and dime my time.
Thoughts on current fair market value as it sits?
or should i squirrel it away till next winter and deal with it then.
and no i dont want to deal with an engine swap.
the sun roof works great!!
Everything works, all electrical is good, its pretty clean, its just the whole engine thing...
so cut my loses sell or park and wait?
EDIT:
Sorry for the massive pics. the other forums i go on they resize some how. |

Car looks very tidy...particularly the interior.
Can't believe you are vacillating on fixing it. You obviously have strong mechanical skills, so you really are only looking at parts and some machining.
Sounds like a great winter job. _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |

Its a very clean car.
I dont have the time is the issue. it wont be this winter, that time has been allocated to other projects that have waited patiently
should i put it up for sale, if so what would be a fair price?
or just put it in the conner of the garage until next year or possibly longer?
Currently these cars are still pretty affordable, do you see that changing? |

In the long run, you have a solid car with a good future potential. If you can't work on it this winter, keep it and get to it when you can. It's not a difficult job, just a bit time consuming if you work continuously. Try doing the work a bit at a time between other projects. It's not worth much as it sits but will be worth a lot more when it's together next year. And then you won't want to sell it _________________ 1979 924 NA race car H-Prod SCCA
