Hi.
My 931 will have a G31 dogleg gearbox fitted with factory LSD.
I want to change the gear oil but which type works with the factory LSD?

Thanks...

Cant find any other info in the workshop manuals other than the same GL5 spec as the normal G31 box, since it shares oil with the synchros LS specific additives will affect the gear box part aswell, which might not be desired.

Not yet, I have had a quaife on the shelf for a few years, it would definitely do more benefit in my gearbox, it has just been postponed due to the engine stuff coming in the way.

This oil should be gl-5 rated: castrol Transmax Axle LL 75W/140

Any experience with this?

How many litres should I buy?

Or maybe this: Castrol Transmax LS Z 85W-90

It should work with or without lsd when I Google it.

I think this viscosity is more suitable, but when it comes to shifting what I learnt over the 20 years or whatever ive been in the car world is that some boxes fits certain oils, even if they are all GL5 for example, thats just a very loose spec. Some boxes Ive had were pretty much unshiftable with the wrong brand of oil. So you can try and see how it shifts, otherwise try some other brand. I currently have red line 75w90ns in my box, since i could get it for reasonable price but not anymore, its very expensive.

There also an alternative spec in the maual, MIL-L 2105B, pretty hard to find According to the manual its 2,5l, i cant remember what i filled last time, it was so long ago.

The yanks with 911s that uses 915 gearbox (similar internals as our G31) swear by Swepco 201, I have a can on the shelf but havent tried it myself, its not exactly easy to find over here.

I have a G31 with LSD which was rebuilt in the US. I was told to use GL5 or MIL-L 2105B.

Was told not to use Swepco or Redline which "eat pinion gears".
