Hello Everyone
Starting a thread of its own for this part
Finally finally finally!!... have the latest version printing on a 3 day print. Have been working with a board member to push this project and get it done. Expecting sometime early Monday US Central Time. The journey to get to this point has been a tad nuts but we are here.
This version has influence from a real GTS console. My helper can identify himself if he would like He has been a great help
From those pics I added more curvature to follow actual console and not the original regular 924 center console like before. Mounting doesn't appear to be an issue either. not 100% finalized yet but I already have the original hanging in the Club Sport.
please see https://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=31912&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=330
I did however, have the face stay flat so it sits into the curvature, or stays flat to the face that is facing you with everything. Hope that makes sense??
Will see how its progressing in about an hour at 10 hours of print time. Its not the fun part until the end
Version 5 2024 as I call it. Feel free to comment, share thoughts, etc.

Great news! Happy to see progress on this project.
I'm looking forward to buy one. I volunteer to be a tester in my want-to-be GTS to provide feedback and pictures if you wish.
Cheers! _________________ 1976 924 N/A ROW SOLD

I do have a tester lined up already besides myself , thanks!
He had, what I consider, crazy access to an original 'unfinished' unit (or it was stripped and beat up). If you look at the GTS manual they only show the top half of the regular gauge cluster. So weird but it backs up what the images look like. Just a hand made custom part
So the first run failed but that was my fault. As soon as it failed I went for the long safer way while I figured it out which I did. Wish I would have waited and hour or two to restart but that's ok. 2nd print is 43% done on an almost four day journey. I won't be doing it this long way again.
Updates coming as soon as I have them. _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

Turned out decent. No carbon this time since its a test of the full version along with the other tweaks. Based on pics I think this region will have to be raised up to match the real version. This version's side curvature was taken directly from a scan of the regular 924 center console

The back area in the pic above follows the driver side Euro shelf and dash nicely but now I have a 'duck bill' on top by the gauges
Adjusting the CAD now for version 6. With the dash the console gets tilted up when mounted and this resulted in the duck bill look at the top of the console above the three gauges
You can see that duck shape too in the above pic _________________ 1980 931 since 1989

Thanks, I am pretty excited about this one but it creates a carpet problem I need to solve
Duck billed version installed. The install tilts / angles the whole console up so it needs to have an downward angle in the part to look ok. Will print one this weekend with improvements shown in CAD image below
Edit: Changed picture size test - Now I can see I can go a bit larger

Ok I successfully printed version 6 and still struggle with how I think it should look relative to original 'hand made' units. It looks to 'stiff', if you know what I mean, like someone uncomfortable in a suit. Its too close to how the stock 924 console looks like instead of the GTS. too square
You know what that means? Version 8
Added more curvature in version 8
I am shooting for a version of this
Currently Version 6 looks like this. Don't get me wrong, it looks good in the car, but I am still going to try this version 8 version which edges closer to the look of the above pic.
Version 8 now with front to back side curvature
Edit: One more view of version 8. ...My wife was just at the museum. I should have had her scan the original

Those all look great. The 80's weren't really 'svelte' contour times. Everything was chunky and boxy ..
I think it suits the car myself. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

When can we see it in the car? Will you coat it with something to look similar to the original? _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

Thanks kenodog, appreciate it
Definitely a labor of love
Morghen, I do have one poor pic with the latest version mounted but not perfectly. Working on cleaning up the interior so it can be remounted.
The CS interior has that grayish Alcantera covering the dash. This was printed in carbon petg which leaves a nearly matching finish except for the side front panel curvature that reveals the obvious print layers in those two small areas (right of seat belt indicator) but everywhere else it looks great. I have been searching for some sort of vinyl paint to try as well. Or sanding and texture blasting might be an option at least for this car with this dash cover
The other option would be to make the front panel removable. This isn't like the original but then thing vinyl could be wrapped around it and the front panel installed after the console is mounted. What really is annoying is the installation itself. Two screws, which thankfully VW / Porsche / Audi Group has used the same interior screws forever, screw into the steel dash bar but like the original 924 console, you have to install those awkwardly upward through the outer two gauge holes. I hate doing this. Almost makes me want to do the front panel idea
There is a cut out at the bottom but that never helps because the heater / vent control blocks everything there
Feel free to share any ideas for coating or otherwise. I know for sure I could just sand, prime, and paint too as an option
Also in the picture is the 3D printed early 928 / 911 / 80 931 style knob installed on round short shift lever (might be set high here). New leather and aftermarket shift indicator insert. I have since done this on the 82 S2 to take out the heavy S2 knob with stock lever.
I'll see what other pics I have

Better CAD pics of the latest version you see installed in the car. I did not realize how tilted /angled up it sits as installed. This is why when you view straight on the top lip comes down over the gauges. In the car though, you don't see it like this
