Has anyone ever tried using the throttle body off a volkswagen gti on a 924? Some friends of mine and I were thinking of the swap on my 82... throttle body is bigger, and the throttle plate on the fuel distributor is also larger... hmmm... more air + more fuel = more power right? Let me know if this would work. ALSO still looking for a rear hatch and a set of black seats and possibly some nice rims for the car. Anyone got some!?!?

Hey your idea has a good chance of working, but I suggest you use a late model Audi 5000 throttle body. The thing is massive compared to the 924s. As far as the air metering piece, the only problem I see is the direction of travel of your metering arm. The 924 plunges downward as air is passed by it. In the VW set up the air is sucked upward. Good Luck...

You must have a 931, Andy? The 924 NA arm flows upwards, just like the Wabbits.
However, stick with the stock air metering unit - it's not the big restriction.

Check out my rennlist webpage (goto member's sites, Vaughan, down at the bottom) for some comparitive photos of the throttle bodies.

So, Vauhgn, do you mean that it would be a waste of time for me to switch over to GTI parts? Do you think there will be any gain from it? I'm in the process of putting a head gasket on the car, so it's torn apart anyway, now's as good a time as any!

Yes. The main restriction is in the head; make sure you have the larger intake valves (38mm). These were on the cars from 77.5 and onward; if you have an early 77 or 76 model, they can be changed out, otherwise don't worry.

Beyond this, you're into serious mods. Check the Engine page of the Technical Section here for more on hop-ups.

When you go to the Audi 5000 throttle body (the biggest you can get) you will probably not see any improvements over a stock engine. If you change your air flow meter system you are asking for trouble. The air flow meter is actually specific for the 924 and the shape is cupped specifically for the air/fuel mixture. You can replace it with a different one, but when you do be sure that all RPM ranges are not effected negitively. Anyone who does this, please let me know what system you did and what mods you had to make to your fuel system (which you will have to make). I will be trying this probably next summer after I study more about the other bosche fuel systems.
